Revisiting the characters from ’Til Death Do Us Part, Henry and Sam Miller-Greene are enjoying life in the summer after Henry’s rescue from a small South Pacific island, where Henry and three others were marooned.

Henry and Sam thought adopting Aiden—a child with whom Henry’d been stranded—would be smooth sailing. Matters are complicated by the public nature of their rescue that has turned the survivors into overnight celebrities. Anti-gay fueled animus rears its ugly head in the blogosphere, causing concerns over the impact libelous rumors might have on Aiden.

Their nightmare separation behind them, Henry and Sam are anxious to renew both the intensity of their former intimacies—now hampered by having a curious and still apprehensive child sharing their home—and their commitment to one another.

'Til Death Do Us Part (Vows Book 1)

I previously read this book but jumped at the chance to listen to the audio. When I had originally read it, I cried, a lot. But, I knew going in what to expect and let me tell you that didn't make a difference at all! I cried while listening to this audio just as much, if not more than when I read it. And since I do most of my listening while driving, that's a little awkward!

Henry and Sam had a happy, successful life surrounded by Sam's family. They're both professors, working at the same university. Their careers and experience are important to Henry and the others' survival after the plane crash. This story moves between the present tense of Sam finding out Henry's alive, to flashbacks of what's happened over the past 5 years. I'm not typically a fan of flashback storytelling, but I thought the author did a fantastic job with this story. And I loved seeing the different perspectives. We were able to see Sam and Henry trying to move on with life and both men in completely different situations, trying to make the best of what life gave them. I loved both Sam and Henry and felt for both characters.

The other characters in this book really help make it as enjoyable. Sam's family, the elderly couple on the plane, Garret and then his family and Devon and his family. And of course, Buddy. These characters are so well done.

The narrator is David Gilmore and he did a fantastic job bringing this story to life! He had an easy to listen to voice, kept a good pace, expressed appropriate emotions. There were no weird pauses in his narration, which is important when listening to an audiobook (in my opinion). The narrator gave characters individual voices which made it easy to listen to, he wasn't just reading a story.

Considering the subject matter of this book, it's pretty low in angst which I enjoy. There's a HEA, also something required for my reading. Whether you decide to listen to the story, or read it, I think this book is one you shouldn't miss!

From This Day Forward (Vows Book 2)

This book continues where the first one left off with Henry and Sam still trying to adjust to each other, and both men making a life for Buddy/Aiden. This story cannot be read as a standalone. For me, I think this novella had too much recreating and retelling what happened in the first book and not enough about their lives in the present. I felt like if all the information retelling the story from the first book was taken out, what was left could have just been an epilogue at the end of the first book.

The narrator is David Gilmore and he did a fantastic job bringing this story to life! He had an easy to listen to voice, kept a good pace and expressed appropriate emotions. There were no weird pauses in his narration and he gave each character an individual voice which made it easy to listen to and to recognize each of them.

Though this wasn't what I had hoped in the follow-up novella about Sam and Henry, we still got to see a little more of their lives and how Aiden is doing and that was nice. But, I still wished for more from this story.
