Release Day Tour ~ Touches (Four Short Stories) by Alina Popescu (Exclusive Excerpt + Giveaway)

Release Day Tour ~ Touches (Four Short Stories) by Alina Popescu (Exclusive Excerpt + Giveaway)

Touches by Alina Popescu banner

Touches is a collection of four contemporary gay romance short stories following the same cast of characters. They can be read in any order, but to better immerse yourself in the characters’ lives, reading them in order is advised.

Synopsis

Sometimes a single touch is enough to change everything. Physical or emotional, a touch can tilt the world on its axis and shift your entire life. It can lead to hell, or it can lead to paradise, but things will never be the same…

A TOUCH OF GLAMOUR

Tudor has big plans for New York City.

Ditch his homophobic colleague. See a musical. Definitely check out the go-go boys.

Meeting one Phantom on Grindr wasn’t in the script.

Tudor gets caught up in a whirlwind when his favorite musical character steps off the stage and into his life.

A TOUCH OF PARADISE

Hauled to work in Hawaii, Tudor has little time to enjoy the island paradise.

His obnoxious friend Radu has it much easier, using his free time to set Tudor up, dangling a willing Hawaiian beauty in front of him.

Having been burned by long-distance relationships before, Tudor stubbornly resists Kahoni’s advances.

But can Tudor be worn down enough to enjoy a touch of paradise?

BLURB: Fairy tale endings weren’t made for people like me. Happy for now usually ain’t in the cards, either.

The dents on my wall from where my headboard kept knockin’ against the same spot was the first clue that I needed to calm my ass down. At the rate I was racking up notches and plowing through hookups, I wasn’t ever gonna find nothing real. Guess I kinda jinxed myself. I created my circumstances. You can’t get what you want if you keep falling back into the same pattern of bad habits. But then things changed. I stumbled onto somethin’ I never in a million years expected to happen. You gotta understand, I’m never the guy who wins. It was supposed to be just sex, but that shifty, rhyming and scheming bastard, Cupid, pulled a fast one.

I may have changed some stuff to protect a couple of people. But before you go believing the tabloids, make sure you understand that you’re gettin’ the lowdown straight from the source.

I needed to get this off my chest and it’s only fair that you at least get my side of it all. At some point, I might regret telling you any of this, but for now, you need to know.

If gay erotica/erotic romance is not your cup of tea and you are offended by same-sex relationships or crass language, you should bypass this story. Content is intended for a mature audience, 18+.

Complexity is the fourth installment in The Kinky Connect Chronicles. The Kinky Connect Chronicles are short erotic stories/novelettes all wrapped up in neat little bows. These stories are standalones. No cliffhangers in the lot!

EXCERPT
“Hey.” Ty looked up from his desk and removed his glasses. “All finished?”
Mac nodded. “I got everything done I wanted to do today. I’ll be here early tomorrow to connect the transformers to the new lights while the electricity’s off. Here.” He opened his notebook, took a sheet of paper from between its covers, and held it out across the cluttered desk to Ty. “This is the extra information on the lighting behind the bar.”
Ty reached for the sheet of paper, his fingers grazing Mac’s. It took every ounce of resolve Mac possessed for him not to flinch at the contact. He wasn’t going to let Ty see the effect one simple touch had on him.
“That was quick.” Surprise flashed in Ty’s brown eyes.
“Uh-huh. I took care of it at lunch. I called Dave and he’s given some indicative figures. Of course, it’ll need to be verified with actual measurements and final quotes from suppliers.”
“That’s okay. We agreed back of the envelope would be fine. This is more than I expected, especially in such a short time frame.” Ty put his glasses back on and studied the paper for a moment. He stuck his pen in the corner of his mouth and chewed gently on the end.

Excerpt

“OH, FUCK. What am I doing here?” Rhys asked himself out loud. “Why didn’t I listen to Mum?” He could remember the conversation, almost word for word.
“Peru? Why on earth would you want to go there, love?” she had demanded incredulously, her Welsh lilt more pronounced than usual. She had retained it even after moving to Manchester when Rhys was a toddler. His father was a Mancunian and he hadn’t wanted to live too far from the city.
“Because… there’s a lot of… interesting stuff there,” Rhys had answered.
“There’s interesting stuff here. Why do you have to head off to the other side of the world? On your own!”
In truth, Rhys had decided on a trip to that particular country without thinking it through. There were a lot of interesting things there. He had been reading the Lonely Planet guide to Peru and had decided he was keen to hike the Inca Trail, to visit the Floating Islands, and to fly over the Nazca Lines. But what had actually given him the idea was the black-eyed stare of the Paddington Bear toy which sat on his pillow. Paddington was the first gift Jonathan had given him. Jonathan, who had confessed to sleeping with someone else—two someone elses in fact—after five years together. He had admitted this during his curt announcement he was leaving Rhys. The bastard.
Rhys replayed those horrible few minutes in his head for about the hundredth time.
“We need to talk.” One of the most ominous-sounding phrases possible—at least Rhys had thought so when Jonathan grunted it at him. His stomach had flipped over as he waited for his lover to continue. He didn’t bother to prompt him with a question. He had sensed things weren’t right for a while, but he hadn’t had the courage to broach the subject. He hadn’t wanted to hear that it was over.

About the author

Louise Lyons comes from a family of writers. Her mother has a number of poems published in poetry anthologies, her aunt wrote poems for the Church, and her grandmother sparked her inspiration with tales of fantasy. Louise first ventured into writing short stories at the grand old age of eight, mostly about little girls and ponies. She branched into romance in her teens, and MM romance a few years later, but none of her work saw the light of day until she discovered Fan Fiction in her late twenties.
Posting stories based on some of her favorite movies, provoked a surprisingly positive response from readers. This gave Louise the confidence to submit some of her work to publishers, and made her take her writing “hobby” more seriously.
Louise lives in the UK, about an hour north of London, with a mad Dobermann, and a collection of tropical fish and tarantulas. She works in the insurance industry by day, and spends every spare minute writing. She is a keen horse-rider, and loves to run long distance. Some of her best writing inspiration comes to her, when her feet are pounding the open road. She often races into the house afterward, and grabs pen and paper to make notes.
Louise has always been a bit of a tomboy, and one of her other great loves is cars and motorcycles. Her car and bike are her pride and joy, and she loves to exhibit the car at shows, and take off for long days out on the bike, with no one for company but herself.

Assignment Danger (Off-World, #4) by Rebecca York ~ Release Day Tour, Excerpt, Giveaway

Assignment Danger (Off-World, #4) by Rebecca York ~ Release Day Tour, Excerpt, Giveaway

Assignment Danger
by Rebecca York
Series: Off-World, #4
Genre: Paranormal Science Fiction
Release Date: January 26, 2015

Jack Younger agrees to risk his life when he takes on a dangerous undercover assignment. He doesn’t count on his old love, Sophia DeAngelo ending up in the middle of the action. What if he has to choose between fulfilling his mission and saving her life?

Jack flew across the floor, grabbing Sophia and dragging her back into the room. But she didn't go quietly.

As soon as she landed on the rough boards, her leg shot out, and her foot connected with his kneecap.

He struggled not to cry out in pain and clue in the men downstairs that something unplanned was going on up here. He pulled Sophia to the floor, where she wrenched herself away and pressed her back against the wall, her legs pulled up, ready to kick him again if he came near her. He feigned toward her, then leaped back, catching her with her legs straight out and throwing himself on top of her.

She scratched at his face and arms, and if he hadn't cared what happened to her, he could have beaten the tar out of her. But he was trying his damnedest to keep from hurting her while keeping her from doing him serious damage.

Even when he pressed her to the floor, she kept fighting, trying to kick and scratch him again.

“For Fate’s sake, stop it, Sophia.”

But it seemed that desperation kept her from listening.

Panting, he clamped his arms around her torso. His fingers twined around her wrists; his legs pressed hers inward.

Still she tried to heave him off as he lay on top of her, breathing hard, his arms and face bleeding and his knee throbbing.

“Stop,” he ordered, all too aware of her body under his. He’d left the room to put some distance between them. Now he felt her breasts pressing against his chest, the womanly curve of her hips. His cock nestled in the valley between her thighs. He’d vowed not to touch her up here. Too bad her gyrations sent fire burning through him.

“If you keep fighting me, I’ll have to knock you out,” he growled.

She shot him a poisonous look, but at least she stopped her efforts to disable him.

“Sophia, for Fates’ sake, I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You could have let me go when we were still in Port City.”

“You know that was impossible. They weren't going to leave a witness alive.”
“They still can’t, can they?”

“No.”

“Then what are you planning?”

“You’re not making it easy to plan anything. I need your cooperation.”

“I’d give my cooperation to Jake Bolton. How can I trust Jack Younger?”

He dragged in a breath and let it out, still trying not to jeopardize his assignment. In frustration, he bit out, “Sophia, what in Hades do you want me to do?”

Her voice was hard and her words direct. “You could stop lying to me.”

He closed his eyes, caught in a trap of his own making. He had tried to play this by the rules as he knew them, but it wasn't working. Not with Sophia.

“All right, I’m a Federation agent. On an undercover assignment.”

She laughed. “Nice try.”

“You asked for the truth. That is the truth. The men downstairs are terrorists trying to overthrow the government. And if they find out I’m a lawman, we’re both going into a sucking sandpit in the swamp. That’s why I couldn't say anything to you. You had to stay scared of me.”

He raised his head again, his eyes locking with hers.

“They said you were on Ameti,” she whispered.

“Yeah. To get a confession from another inmate. I thought I was done with playing criminal, but my boss thought my cover was too good to drop.” His harsh laugh pressed his body more painfully to hers.

“That’s quite a story.”

“It’s the truth. I hope you believe it, because I've had all I can take of holding you down.”

Making a decision that he prayed wasn't fatal, he let go of her hands and rolled to his back where he lay on the floor, staring up at the water-stained ceiling as he waited to find out what she would do now.

Long seconds ticked by before she sat up, staring down at him as though she still couldn't decide what to believe.

He lay where he was, his breath frozen in his lungs hoping she could shift a hundred and eighty degrees in her thinking—from Jack Younger scumbag to Jack Younger Federation agent.

When she sat up and lifted her hand toward his face, his body prepared for fight or flight.

Review:

*ARC provided by NKAuthorServices in exchange for a fair and honest review*

Tracy: This is Edwin and Oliver's story. They are both RA's. Oliver is laid back, while Edwin is uptight and a stickler for the rules. They both want to be with the other, but neither is brave enough to admit it. They place a small bet that starts the ball rolling to get them to that loving relationship they both want.

Mari: I really enjoyed the dynamics of the bet within the story. It gave it depth and showed us that both boys had been pretty much attracted to the other from their freshman year until three and a half years later. They confirm the rule of Opposites Attract, because as Tracy mentioned they couldn’t be more different and yet, they clicked. Their chemistry was awesome, their friendship was even more amazing and I loved seeing them stumble their way into their HEA. It wasn’t easy, but they were willing to work on issues and push past their own insecurities to make it.

Tracy: This was a cute, sweet, funny story. Throw in a couple of miscommunications, steamy sex, an awesome epilogue and stir, for a great story!

Mari: Yes, that’s true! It was cute and fun, with just a dash of angst to keep it interesting. I loved seeing them years into the future and see that while things weren’t perfect, they were realistic, which is something I can appreciate.

I had read another story by Annabeth before, Resilient Heart, which was part of the Unconditional Surrender bundle, and it was one of my favorites, and I loved this one, too, so I’m looking forward to reading her upcoming Portland Heat series very soon.

All in all, a fantastic story that left me with a huge smile on my face!

*Tracy and Mari: 4.5 winning stars*

Mari´s Review:

*ARC provided by NKAuthorServices in exchange for a fair and honest review*

Brendan, a hockey player and English Lit major, gets a job as TA for Dr. Scott Greenfield, who is fifteen years his senior. He's been hiding his sexuality from everyone for years, but plans to come out after he graduates. He's sweet and sensitive, very inexperienced and unable to fight his attraction for the older man.

Scott is a published author, teaching some classes at the Cathia College, where he meets Brendan. He has a lot in common with Brendan and loves talking with him, but tries to keep him at arm's length, because while he is out, he doesn't want to jeopardize his job.

While I enjoyed this book, I think at times Brendan seemed more mature to me than Scott. At least Brendan was more willing to fight for what he wanted. For most of the story it was Brendan who pushed and pushed until he managed to crack Scott's resolve. I understand Scott had a lot to lose, but so did Brendan in a sense, and at times, the age difference really impacted in their relationship, which is perfectly understandable and realistic.

Despite that, I liked this story, I think Brendan and Scott worked well together, once both of them decided to give it a try. They had chemistry and had many things in common, which I liked. I loved Tyler, Brendan's roommate and best friend, and I loved seeing a cameo of Edwin and Ollie from Winning Bracket by Annabeth Albert. All in all, it was an enjoyable read.

* Mari: 4 eloquent stars *
