Jackson Meade was a shy, awkward kid just trying to survive a high school with too many bullies and too few friends. Now that he’s in college, his eyes have been opened to a whole world of possibilities, especially those regarding love and sexuality. However, he can’t enjoy any of it since he’s been separated from his best friend.

Blake Renault has been in love with his best friend almost since they first met. After escaping a bad family situation, he lived with Jackson and his mom for the last two years of high school, which made it much harder to keep his feelings a secret. Graduation brings lots of changes for the boys, including Blake moving to a different city to apprentice with a tattoo artist and Jackson going off to college.

Being forced apart after high school leads them to new revelations about themselves and their relationship. While Jackson questions whether his attachment to Blake is normal for best friends, Blake decides to risk everything and tell Jackson the truth. Jackson and Blake must figure out what they want from each other while the future of their deep friendship hangs in the balance. Will they find love, or lose everything?

Synopsis

Mackenzie Pratt is having the worst luck of his life. His apartment building is being torn down, and since he’s jobless and just weeks away from graduating college, he can’t find anywhere else he can afford to live that isn’t a critter-infested dump. As he’s lamenting the very real possibility of job hunting while couch-surfing, he gets an offer from the coworker of his best friend.
An in-demand mobile app developer and heir to his parents’ fortune, Laurent Beaudry is literally an eccentric billionaire. Even though Mackenzie realizes he’s basically living the plot of a cheesy romance novel, he takes the proffered room in Laurent’s Baltimore mansion. He finds his new housemate to be grumpy, brooding, and, at times, incredibly kind and endearing.
Raised by his brother after their father’s death, Mackenzie spent his formative years plowing headlong through school, focusing on little else beyond earning his teaching certification. He’s never taken the time to explore love and relationships, much less sexuality, so when he finds himself being courted by another man, he has no idea what to do. And when he realizes he might actually return those feelings, his life takes a whole new direction.

Excerpt:
Dr. Conlan treated me to a rare fond smile, almost motherly in its warmth. “I’m pleased to see you happier than you have been.”
I grinned back, but then my brow furrowed. “Does this make me gay?”
“Does that matter?”
“I don’t know. Should it?”
“I’ll never understand the fascination with labeling things that our society seems to have. To me, sexuality is as intangible as the universe. There’s no way to truly know what’s out there, and how it all relates to everything else.
“As humans, we seek to know, to understand, and somehow we feel that putting things in boxes and labeling helps us do that. But some things are fluid, changing and developing with the tide of the evolution of life. Do me a favor, Rory. Don’t put yourself in a box.”
I was dumbfounded, stunned speechless. I knew I’d remember Dr. Conlan’s words for the rest of my life, and I would try to stay as true to them as I could. “I won’t,” I whispered.

Tracy's Review:

5 Stars

While reading the first two books in this series I have watched Rory and desperately wanted to get into his head and see what his story was. See what makes him tick. J.K. didn't disappoint. We go deep into Rory's head. Rory, a HS Photography teacher is sweet and totally confused. Things are not going well in his new marriage, but he doesn't know how to fix himself to make it better. Frustrated, he turns to therapy for help. We get an very in-depth look at Rory's past, while he works through his issues.

Bennett, a Harbor Patrol Officer, knows who he is. He is gay, but he isn't out except to his work partner, his daughter, Addy and her mother, Jessie. He is a loving and devoted father and a workaholic without much of a social life.

The two men meet through mutual friends and again through a parent teacher conference concerning Bennett's daughter, who also happens to be one of Rory's students, Addy. They continue to be thrown together in different circumstances and eventually form a friendship. But will the friendship between them lead to more?

I couldn't wait for this book, and I absolutely loved it! I haven't read a book by this author yet that I haven't loved. This book made me feel. I felt Rory's frustration, hurt and sadness. I felt like I knew these characters inside and out. I loved how in-depth the character development was. Both of these guys are extremely lovable and you can't help but root for them to find their way. They had a chemistry, love, and passion you could just feel. The story had enough angst to keep you interested, but not so much you wanted to pull your hair out. As in every other book I have read by this author, the sex was smoking hot!!

The secondary characters, especially Addison were also all well developed and added nicely to the story. I loved getting to revisit some of the previous MC's from this series.

I wanted a conclusion, but I didn't want this to end. I am sad to look on goodreeads and see I have now read all of this author's M/M works. I can't wait for her to write more in the future, and I hope to see more of the couples from this series in the future as well.

Awesome read, highly recommended!!
