Audiobook Review: A Solitary Man by Shira Anthony and Aisling Mancy (Giveaway)

Blurb:

Sparks fly when Chance meets tall, sexy Xav at a Wilmington bar and they have the hottest one-nighter of their lives. But Chance doesn’t do repeats, Xav seems detached, and they go their separate ways without a word. Later, when closeted Assistant District Attorney C. Evan “Chance” Fairchild meets Dare's Landing’s newest deputy sheriff, Xavier “Xav” Constantine, Evan isn’t only wary. He’s irritated as hell.

Xavier is a former FBI agent turned deputy sheriff who is hot on the trail of a South American child prostitution ring. Evan is fighting to put an end to rampant cocaine trafficking and chafing under the thumb of an election-hungry boss. When someone tries to kill the eleven-year-old witness who holds the key to both their investigations, they’re forced to work together as they put their lives on the line to protect him. As Chance and Xav collide in the heat of a sweltering North Carolina summer, dodging bullets and chasing bad guys isn’t the only action going on.

Foster An Author hosted by Jo&Isa Love Books Day Three ~ A Solitary Man by Shira Anthony and Aisling Mancy ~ (Excerpt + Giveaway)

Hi, I’m Aisling “Ash” Mancy! I’m lucky enough to have been adopted by Bayou Book Junkie this week for Jo&Isa Love Books Foster an Author week! I love my new parents! I’m headed to Gay Rom Lit Retreat this week and I’ll be sharing these posts every day. Be sure to scroll down and enter the giveaway!

Any of you who know me and my writing, know that I place a tremendous value on humor. We’re familiar with the adage that laughter is the best medicine. Taking nothing away from it, it’s only a symptom. The true best medicine is good humor. Good humor is the motivation for laughter. It allows us to feel camaraderie, to identify with others, to see things from new perspectives, and to tease good-naturedly—ourselves and others. But most importantly, good humor is a new experience for a victim of abuse, and usually the first happy experience they have; the first good feelings they feel.

Xav is a conservative ex-FBI agent having moved from California to North Carolina to become a deputy sheriff. He and Chance (Mr. Fairchild), an assistant district attorney, are hot on the trail of drug and child sex traffickers determined to put them away for good. In A Solitary Man, Xav teases almost constantly, makes fun of things and people, he isn’t afraid to do the inane, all while he maintains calm and aplomb. Xav not only has trouble with southern ways, but the vernacular has him laughing his ass off most of the time. And it goes to show each of us that we can be fun and funny no matter how serious life is or we may need to be at times. I hope you enjoy the below excerpt as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Thanks for joining us in celebrating Foster an Author week on Bayou Book Junkie!

Shiver me timbers! When Professor Wesley Coolidge accepts a summer job as a historical consultant to a pirate movie being filmed in North Carolina, the last person he expects to bump into is his soon-to-be-ex-husband, movie star Sander Carson. Just like the flamboyant pirate he’s playing, Sander, aka Sam Carr, is used to getting what he wants, and he makes it clear he wants Wesley back in his life.

Sam acknowledges it’s his fault they split up. He lost Wesley when he left their life in New York City behind for a career in Hollywood. But Wesley has finally managed to put the pieces of his heart back together, and he isn’t interested in Sam and Wesley: The Sequel. Sam soon realizes that convincing Wesley to give their relationship a second chance will take much more than apologies and reminders of good times past. If he wants Wesley back, Sam will have to show Wesley that they really can sail into the sunset together—a real-life happily-ever-after that won’t end once the final credits roll.

With the final confrontation between the island and mainland Ea factions looming, Taren and Ian sail with Odhrán to investigate a lost colony of merfolk in the Eastern Lands. Upon their arrival, the King of Astenya welcomes them as friends. Odhrán, however, isn’t so quick to trust the descendent of the man who held him prisoner for nearly a decade, especially now that he has someone to cherish and protect—the mysterious winged boy he rescued from the depths.

Armed with the knowledge he believes will save the Ea, Taren returns to the mainland. With Ian at his side, Taren convinces Vurin that their people must unite with their island brethren before it’s too late. Progressive Fanfic Post:

Original merman flash fic

This is really neat...a progressive Fanfic! Before you read this head to Amanda C Stone for the beginning of the Fanfic post!!

The setup: The crews of the Sea Witch and the Phantom join forces as Taren and Ian search for the fabled colony of merfolk in the Eastern Lands. Human and Ea (mermen shifters), side by side, are drawn into an age-old mystery. Set sometime during the final book in the Mermen of Ea Series, Running with the Wind, two cabin boys, one human and one merman, grow to be close friends and perhaps more....
Continued from Amanda C Stone
Fiall had never seen Aine in his Ea form, although he’d often tried to imagine how he might appear. “You’d... transform?”
“Aye. Of course.”
“I... I don’t know....”
Aine reached for Fiall’s hand. “I promise I won’t leave you alone. When I transform, I’m far stronger than as a human. I can easily carry you, should you require my assistance.”
Fiall drew a long breath and pushed away the tendrils of fear that still clutched at his heart. He nodded, words failing him. His face grew hot in his embarrassment. Aine’s hand felt so warm, so good. Aine didn’t seem to notice, but grinned happily. Fiall expected Aine to lead him to the water, but instead he waited expectantly.
“Shall we?” Fiall asked. Aine giggled and pressed his lips together. “What is it?” Fiall pressed when Aine said nothing.
“You cannot swim in your clothes,” Aine pointed out.
The heat in Fiall’s face now felt like fire. He looked away, then undressed. He’d never been self-conscious before, but now, as Aine waited patiently for him, Fiall felt the stirrings of a new modesty.
“Good,” Aine said as he once again took Fiall’s hand. He didn’t seem to care that Fiall was as naked as he. “Now come with me.”
Fiall followed Aine to the water’s edge. “Stay there,” Aine told him. “I’ll transform and—”
“I want to see you transform,” Fiall said, surprising himself with his own boldness.
For a moment, he feared Aine would not want this, but then Aine’s face lit with a bright smile and he skipped into the waves. “You would want to watch?” Aine asked.
“Aye.”
Aine shouted happily and splashed his way past where the waves broke. “Will you be all right,” he asked as the water reached his shoulders, “putting your head under the water?”
Fiall thought only briefly about this and nodded. He moved closer, making sure his feet never left the sandy bottom. His heart raced with excitement as Aine waved, then sank beneath the waves.
Fiall took a deep breath, leaned over, and put his face to the water. Slowly, he opened his eyes. Here, where there were no crashing waves, he could see clear to the bottom. A few feet before him, Aine waved once more at him from where he floated a few feet beneath the surface.

Excerpt:

They continued to float, Taren’s face pressed against Ian’s chest. Taren could sense Ian’s physical desire for him, but Ian waited patiently and held him close. The feeling of peaceful repose settled deep within Taren’s heart, and Taren became slowly aware of how much he wanted Ian. Not a new feeling, but this time Taren’s doubt had fled with the onslaught of Ian’s embrace.

Taren reached up and kissed Ian. He wasn’t sure what he’d expected of the kiss. He’d never kissed anyone under the water. Ian’s mouth felt hotter than before. The saltwater caused Taren’s mouth to vibrate with sensation, as if Taren could taste Ian’s desire. Ian’s scent was powerful and primal, more like those of the other creatures Taren had smelled beneath the waves. No longer human. Taren’s body responded to the scent even more strongly than to Ian’s touch. The stirring inside his body felt both strange and wonderful. They swam side by side a few feet above the sand.

Taren’s heart beat a steady tattoo, and his body heated under Ian’s intensely possessive gaze. Taren’s need to submit was primal and demanding. Ian flicked his tail and moved to nuzzle Taren, brushing against Taren’s skin in a sensual and dizzying dance. Around and around they swam, spiraling, their bodies always in contact. Without thinking, Taren nipped at Ian’s neck. Ian swam on his back, exposing his neck to Taren’s mouth and teeth. Taren continued to bite and lick until Ian hissed in reply. The sound was like a soft whistle, audible through the water.

“Goddess!” Ian’s voice in Taren’s mind was a husky growl. “Where did you learn to do that?”

Taren had no answer except that his body knew this. He floated just above Ian, their bellies now pressed together, tails propelling them in unison. They moved in a slow, languid line above the sand. Taren nearly laughed to feel Ian’s cock hard against his own, where before they’d been hidden inside their bodies. He stopped moving and reached down to clasp it, surprised at how human it felt, hard and veined. He wanted to taste it, to learn its secrets with his lips.

Ian gazed down at Taren and stilled so Taren might better explore his body. Taren wrapped his arms around Ian’s tail and hooked his own tail around Ian’s body so they floated as one, their bodies rocked on the gentle current. With a quick glance upward at Ian—Ian’s expression was serene, even vulnerable—Taren took Ian in his mouth.
Ian’s cock was long and thick. Taren licked around the tip, flicking his tongue in tiny circles until he felt Ian’s body shudder with pleasure, then swallowed Ian’s erection until it tickled the back of his throat.

Ian moved his tail just a bit, sending them spinning again as Taren continued to explore with his tongue, reveling in Ian’s sweetness. How strange it felt to hear the surf as he coaxed Ian’s body to the brink. Stranger still, Taren’s mind filled with images from Ian’s thoughts, as if by giving his body over to Taren’s attentions, Ian had given all of himself to Taren.
Through Ian’s eyes, Taren saw the waves buffet the Phantom and felt joy stir in his heart as the mighty ship rode the crest of a wave and fell, the spray cool on his face. He saw himself asleep on Ian’s bed, his head in Ian’s lap as Ian stroked his hair and spoke softly to him. He felt Ian’s concern for his welfare, Ian’s need to reassure himself of Taren’s well-being. He felt the freedom of Ian’s transformation, the power of Ian’s body as it cut through the water and chased dolphins in the surf. He felt his own lips on Ian’s member, his mouth hot and hungry, and Ian’s climax as it exploded through Ian’s body. When Ian finally spent himself in Taren’s hungry mouth, Taren experienced Ian’s climax as if it were his own. Taren’s orgasm sent him over a cascade of emotion and physical sensation.

Excerpt:

Adrien walked back onto the main street and over to the curb, where someone caught his eye. A man with short black hair walked toward him. Dressed in dark jeans, with a white shirt and dark wool jacket, he wore a single diamond stud in his left ear. A woman hurrying down the sidewalk dodged Adrien as he stopped, but the man behind him knocked him to his knees.

“Are you all right?” someone said with a hint of a French accent.

Adrien looked up into familiar brown eyes. Adrien inhaled slowly, hoping to head off the bloodlust that buzzed at the back of his brain. Heat tingled at the back of his neck, raising the hairs there. His palms felt suddenly sweaty. He felt sick. Not nausea—shock at seeing Nicolas here, realizing it really was Nicolas.

“Yes, I….” Adrien took the hand Nicolas offered and struggled back to his feet. The world spun and he grabbed Nicolas’s arm to steady himself.

“You’re not all right. You look ill. I should call an ambulance—”

“No ambulance.” Adrien righted himself. “I just need to eat something. It’s hotter than I realized.”

Nicolas glanced around, frowned, then said, “There’s a coffee shop at the corner.” He didn’t appear convinced by Adrien’s words. “Why don’t I help you over there?”

As if Adrien would object. “Thank you.”

Five minutes later they sat at a booth by the window, Adrien drinking coffee with a trembling hand. Adrien had watched Nicolas as they’d walked the short distance to the restaurant, his swordsman’s muscles straining against the fabric of his shirt. He looked only slightly older than he’d been when they met. “I’m sorry,” he said, coming back to himself and wondering why Nicolas was sitting with him when he could have left. “I must be keeping you from something.”

“No,” Nicolas answered. “In fact, I just came from a meeting. I’ve got the rest of the afternoon free.”

“I’m Adrien.” He forced a smile and set the empty mug down.

“Nicolas.”

“It’s good to meet you, Nicolas,” Adrien said in French. He drew another long breath and his heart slowed its gallop.

“Please call me Nico,” Nicolas said, also in French.
