Paul Hannon flunked out of vet school. His fiancée left him. He can barely afford his rent, and he hates his house. About the only things he has left are a pantry full of his ex’s kitchen gadgets and a lot of emotional baggage. He could really use a win—and that’s when he meets El.

Pawnbroker El Rozal is a cynic. His own family’s dysfunction has taught him that love and relationships lead to misery. Despite that belief, he keeps making up excuses to see Paul again. Paul, who doesn’t seem to realize that he’s talented and kind and worthy. Paul, who’s not over his ex-fiancée and is probably straight anyway. Paul, who’s so blind to El’s growing attraction, even asking him out on dates doesn’t seem to tip him off.

El may not do relationships, but something has to give. If he wants to keep Paul, he’ll have to convince him he’s worthy of love—and he’ll have to admit that attachment might not be so bad after all.

Blurb

Sometimes it takes a village to fall in love.
Eccentric, reclusive, socially awkward project designer Evan Myles doesn’t date. Paying for sex with professionals is so much more efficient and suits his needs well enough. But when he’s on assignment in rural Logan, Minnesota, for the Christmas Town project and a handsome stranger at the bar catches his attention, Evan decides it’s time to break his rule. It doesn’t matter that he’s never so much as flirted before. It can’t be that hard, can it?
Davidson Incorporated lead architect Terry Reid hasn’t been hit on so clumsily in his life. Terry’s the first to admit he’s a neurotic Prince Charming, and he’s kissed his share of frogs of both genders, but he’s never met anyone quite like Evan Myles. Evan calls Terry by the wrong name, mistakes Terry for a simple construction worker, and picks apart his work as an architect. Despite this rough start, Terry is lured by the brilliance of Evan’s ideas, his quirky personality, and once they’re alone in Evan’s cabin, the man’s mad skills in bed. Yet Terry knows it takes more than a single night of passion to make a relationship work, and after so many failures, he’s just not ready to try again.
Evan and Terry’s path is strewn with stones neither of them can dislodge. Fortunately, they’re not alone on the road to romance. They’re in Christmas Town, home to matchmakers, meddlers, and more “fairy godfathers” than they could possibly know what to do with.
Most importantly, in Logan, Minnesota, happy ever after is guaranteed.

Sometimes family chooses you.
At forty, Vincent “Vinnie” Fierro is still afraid to admit he might be gay—even to himself. It’ll be a problem for his big, fat Italian family. Still, after three failed marriages, it’s getting harder to ignore what he really wants.
Vinnie attempts some self-exploration in Chicago’s Boystown bars, far from anyone who knows him. Naturally, he runs smack into someone from the neighborhood.
Between working two jobs, going to school, taking care of his grandmother, and dealing with his mother’s ongoing substance abuse, Trey Giles has little time for fun, let alone dating someone who swears he’s straight. Yet after one night of dancing cheek-to-cheek, Trey agrees to let Vinnie court him and see if he truly belongs on this side of the fence—though Trey intends to keep his virginity intact.
It seems like a solid plan, but nothing is simple when family is involved. When Vinnie’s family finds out about their relationship, the situation is sticky enough, but when Trey’s mother goes critical, Vinnie and Trey must decide whose happiness is most important—their families’ or their own.

Some heroes wear capes. Some prefer sensory sacks.
Emmet Washington has never let the world define him, even though he, his boyfriend, Jeremey, and his friends aren’t considered “real” adults because of their disabilities. Book 3.5 in the Love Lessons Series
Hot messes have a hard time with happily ever after.
Baz Acker and Elijah Prince have it all. They’re engaged, and their wedding is guaranteed to be a spectacle no event will ever top. So why are they hunkered down in a quiet corner of the Acker mansion, restless and edgy while they wait out the holidays?
When Baz suggests a road trip with Walter and Kelly to Las Vegas, it sounds like an ideal escape, but it turns out Vegas only amplifies their unease. Elijah can’t slough off the self-hating his parents programmed into him, and he worries how that will affect his marriage. Baz, crippled en route because of too much time spent in the car without rest, must face the truth that his wealth and influence can’t always counteract the limits his disability will put on his—and Elijah’s—life.
With help from their friends, a wily poker player, a take-no-prisoners drag queen, and a smooth-talking casino owner, they face the truth that happiness is a state of mind, not a destination where they book a stay. What happens in Vegas won’t stay in Vegas—it will follow them all the way down the aisle.

Love, adventure and a steaming good time.
As the French army leader’s bastard son, Cornelius Stevens enjoys a great deal of latitude. But when he saves an enemy soldier using clockwork parts, he’s well aware he risks hanging for treason. That doesn’t worry him half as much, however, as the realization he’s falling for his patient.

When a threat is made on Cornelius’s life, Johann learns the secret of the device implanted in his chest—a mythical weapon both warring countries would kill to obtain. Series: Minnesota Christmas
Characters: Paul Jansen, Kyle Parks

BLURB:

Finding Mr. Right can be a snow lot of fun.
Paul Jansen was the only one of his friends who wanted a relationship. Naturally, he’s the last single man standing. No gay man within a fifty-mile radius wants more than casual sex. No one, that is, except too-young, too-twinky Kyle Parks, who sends him suggestive texts and leaves X-rated snow sculptures on his front porch.
Kyle is tired of being the town’s resident Peter Pan. He’s twenty-five, not ten, and despite his effeminate appearance, he’s nothing but the boss in bed. He’s loved Paul since forever, and this Christmas, since they’re both working on the Winter Wonderland festival, he might finally get his chance for a holiday romance.
But Paul comes with baggage. His ultra-conservative family wants him paired up with a woman, not a man with Logan’s rainbow connection. When their anti-LGBT crusade spills beyond managing Paul’s love life and threatens the holiday festival, Kyle and Paul must fight for everyone’s happily ever after, including their own.
Warning: Contains erotic snow art, toppy twinks, and super-sweet holiday moments. Best savored with a mug of hot chocolate with a dash of spice

Excerpt:
Kyle spent the rest of the ride telling Gabriel about the dinner date, about Corrina’s Red Hat Society meeting, about the intimate dinner for two in the shop. He also filled him in on the new plan for the Winter Wonderland project. “Mostly we decided we didn’t understand what was going on, and Paul’s going to see if all of us can meet somewhere on Sunday afternoon. All of us being him, me, you, Arthur, Marcus and Frankie. He says you guys solved last year’s clusterfuck, so maybe that can happen again.”
“That should work. I’ll talk to Arthur.”
“No, don’t. Paul’s going to ask you. Act surprised.”
Gabriel smiled. “Sure. So explain to me now how you were nearly having sex against a door.”
“He kept staring at me. At first I thought I had stuff on my face, and he said I did, but now I wonder. I was different tonight, according to him. I still don’t understand how, because all he said was than usual. Which is annoying, because mostly I was nervous and self-conscious, but that was when he looked at me like he finally understood I was a male human. Then he looked like he was about to tell me I was too young again, and I kind of went postal on him.”
“Interesting. Go on.”
“Well, I told him I wasn’t too young, said I’d burn up his sheets, and he’d need an ice pack on his stool in the shop the next day.”
Gabriel laughed, a delightful trill reverberating inside the car. “I wish they had surveillance in the shop. I’d rewind it to watch his face.” He glanced across the seat at Kyle, gaze dancing with devilry. “Are you really that toppy?”
This was a weird conversation to be having with his local librarian. Kyle became focused on a loose thread on his mittens. “Just because I’m skinny and limp-wristed doesn’t mean I want to bend over.”
“No, and I don’t mean to stereotype. I will say it surprises me, though now as I truly think about it, maybe not. I can see what Paul means about you being different, if you were letting that side of you out.”
They were at the café now, which had barely any cars left in the lot. Gabriel pulled in beside Kyle’s car. As Kyle released his seat belt, Gabriel turned to him with a smile. “I think you and I need to get to know one another better. Frankie too. When we meet on Sunday for this get-together I don’t know about yet, let’s discuss a time the three of us can escape to Duluth.” He waggled his eyebrows. “Or maybe even the Cities. We could do some early Christmas shopping.”
Kyle hadn’t been to Minneapolis in forever. “That sounds great.”
Gabriel winked and made gentle shooing motions at the door. “Go on. Drive safe, all right?”
“You too,” Kyle said, and hurried out of the car.
It took him an extra fifteen minutes to get home, and when he pulled into the garage, he let out a heavy sigh of relief. As he stomped snow off his boots and hung his things in the mudroom, Linda Kay’s worried, bespectacled face appeared at the window. When he opened the door, she enveloped him in a tight hug, pressing her face into his chest. “Kyle David, you scared me half to death. You should have come home hours ago.”
Kyle hugged her back, kissing her hair. “I’m sorry, sweetie. I didn’t mean to upset you. I was on a date.”
She lifted her face, worry evaporating to interest. “Oh? With who?”
Kyle’s lips quirked. “Paul.”
Her face screwed up into her beautiful, squinty smile. “You devil. Did you make it to third base?”
“I didn’t even get to first. I’m playing hard to get.”
Linda Kay let go of him and rolled her eyes. “Well, that’s got to be a first. Is it working?”
Kyle remembered the way Paul had looked at him, back pressed against the door. “Maybe.”
“Then keep your zipper shut, buddy.” She took his hand and pulled him toward the kitchen. “Let’s celebrate with hot cocoa and marshmallows.”
Kyle followed her, smiling and feeling loved and warm and home. “Sounds perfect.”

Mari's Review:

*** ARC provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. ***

Paul wants to have a relationship, to find that person that will love him and make him feel safe. The only problem is that no one seems to want that with him. No one except too young, too twinky Kyle, who pursues him relentlessly, but that wouldn't work. For one, the age difference, and then, two bottoms together? No way no how. Only Kyle isn't as young as everyone seems to believe and neither is he a bottom, and with the help of Paul's friends he is set to conquer the man of his dreams.

Gabriel and Arthur's mother help Kyle learn more of Paul and the more that he sees, the more that he likes. As they help plan the Winter Wonderland festival, both Paul and Kyle are drawn together and start exploring their attraction for each other. However, there are things that play against them, like Paul's family who are not all that supportive of Paul's choices.

I loved the way Gabriel and Arthur's mother helped Kyle so he could capture Paul's attention, and I loved that we got to see Kyle interacting with his sister and the rest of his family and how well he fit with Paul's friends. Despite the age difference, Paul and Kyle were just perfect for each other. It was lovely to see them adjust to all the changes around them as they worked on the Winter Wonderland festival and on their relationship. It was also nice to see Kyle realize his childhood crush had turned into something much deeper.

I adored this story to bits! It's fun, angsty, complex and filled with twists and turns and fascinating characters that will just draw you into their Winter Wonderland and make you invested in their story. Definitely an amazing read!

Meet Baz and Elijah

Teasers:

WHY I WROTE THE BOOK/INSIGHTS INTO BAZ AND ELIJAH AS CHARACTERS

Fever Pitch was never meant to be a sequel to Love Lessons, and I had no plans initially for a lengthy series, but then I met Elijah. In Fever Pitch I only ever wanted Elijah to be the cranky roommate, sort of an antithesis to Walter and Kelly’s roommate romance. I figured out quickly he was gay, but he wasn’t just cranky, he was brutal, and I didn’t understand why. As soon as I learned the depth of his backstory, I knew he’d have a story.
Baz was much the same. His role in Fever Pitch was to be the wrong choice, Aaron reaching too easily for comfort. He too grabbed my attention, especially those sunglasses. Why did he wear them all the time? He honestly gave me goosebumps, because his disabilities and internal injuries lined themselves up before I got to research them properly. And of course the more I wrote him, the more I realized he was hiding some seriously soft insides.
Both Elijah and Baz walked onto the page of Fever Pitch and sparkled all on their own. I didn’t know they shared a past until Baz jumped in front of Elijah in the parking lot, but all they had to do was look at one another, and I knew they’d live happily ever after, together.
I loved writing Lonely Hearts because Baz and Elijah weren’t simply wounded heroes. They’d both suffered serious trauma in their past, they were survivors and by and large they had their heads on straight about the rough hands life had dealt them. What it was clear they didn’t know, however, was how to be intimate with other people. Their life experiences allowed them to feel very deeply, made them rich and strong, but they couldn’t figure out how to share that with anyone else.
More than any characters I’ve ever written, I feel like Baz and Elijah could only be happily ever after with each other. You’ll have to let me know if you agree.

Mari's Review:

*copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by author/publisher in exchange for an honest review*

Ever since I read Love Lessons I fell in love with Heidi Cullinan's writing, Fever Pitch made her one of my favorite writers ever, and now Lonely Hearts has made me even more of a fan of her work.

This book is a such a fantastic addition to the series, I adore how Heidi managed to include the main characters from the first two stories and interweave them into this story so masterfully. They weren't the main pairing, but they still got enough "air time" and were included in the main storyline, along with some new characters, and for me, at least, this made the story more realistic.

Both Baz and Elijah are hot messes, both having suffered traumatic events in their past that have marked them and made them wary and untrusting, Elijah even more so than Baz.

Baz is prickly and he doesn't want to let anyone in too close with him, but he can't stop thinking of Elijah and after asking him to be his fake boyfriend for his mother's fundraiser, he realizes he wants Elijah to be his real boyfriend. Baz is not sure what he's going to do of his life, once he finally decides to graduate, and being with Elijah, helps him in finally finding a purpose in life.

Elijah doesn't trust easily, and he's constantly fearing Baz is going to wise up and leave him. He suffers panic attacks and both him and Baz resort to too many drugs (prescription and not) to be able to cope with their past and present. He has to deal with a lot of issues, but with Baz and their friends' help, he finally finds his center.

Baz and Elijah have insane chemistry, too, and the sex if off the charts hot. Both of them are broken, but likable, and I just wanted to cuddle them both. I have to admit I cried more than a couple of times, too, there were several scenes that tugged at my heartstrings.

It was lovely to read what Walter and Kelly and Aaron and Giles had been up to, and how they all always rally together along with their group of friends to help each other through thick and thin.

This is truly a magnificent story, and really, it goes up there as one of my favorite reads ever. I just adore how music, love and friendship play such a pivotal part in the series. It's definitely a story to savor more than once, too, which I'd do as soon as I have a little more time.

The Love Lessons series are new adult LGBT contemporary romance novels set at various colleges within the American Midwest. While Love Lessons and Fever Pitch feature gay protagonists, subsequent novels will include lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual heroes and heroines.
The heat level for these stories is significantly sweeter than some of Heidi's erotic romances, which has a tendency to make the sexual tension ratchet off the charts.
Book four in the series, tentatively titled One of the Girls, will feature Rose and Mina. Book five will feature Lejla, who you meet in Lonely Hearts. Whether or not the series goes beyond these novels is yet to be determined.

Love doesn’t come with a syllabus.
Kelly Davidson has waited what seems like forever to graduate high school and get out of his small-minded, small town. But when he arrives at Hope University, he quickly realizes finding his Prince Charming isn’t so easy. Everyone here is already out. In fact, Kelly could be the only virgin on campus. Worst of all, he’s landed the charming, handsome, gay campus Casanova as a roommate, whose bed might as well be equipped with a revolving door.
Walter Lucas doesn’t believe in storybook love. Everyone is better off having as much fun as possible with as many people as possible…except his shy, sad little sack of a roommate is seriously screwing up his world view. As Walter sets out to lure Kelly out of his shell, staying just friends is harder than he anticipated. He discovers love is a crash course in determination. To make the grade, he’ll have to finally show up for class…and overcome his own private fear that love was never meant to last.
Warning: This story contains lingering glances, milder than usual sexual content for this author, and a steamy dance-floor kiss. Story has no dairy or egg content, but may contain almonds.

Sometimes you have to play love by ear.
Aaron Seavers is a pathetic mess, and he knows it. He lives in terror of incurring his father’s wrath and disappointing his mother, and he can’t stop dithering about where to go to college—with fall term only weeks away. Ditched by a friend at a miserable summer farewell party, all he can do is get drunk in the laundry room and regret he was ever born. Until a geeky-cute classmate lifts his spirits, leaving him confident of two things: his sexual orientation, and where he’s headed to school.
Giles Mulder can’t wait to get the hell out of Oak Grove, Minnesota, and off to college, where he plans to play his violin and figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. But when Aaron appears on campus, memories of hometown hazing threaten what he’d hoped would be his haven. As the semester wears on, their attraction crescendos from double-cautious to a rich, swelling chord. But if more than one set of controlling parents have their way, the music of their love could come to a shattering end.

About Heidi:

Heidi grew up in love with story.  She fell asleep listening to Disney long-playing records and read her Little House On The Prairie books until they fell apart.  She ran through the woods inventing stories of witches and fairies and enchanted trees and spent hours beneath the lilac bush imagining the lives of the settlers who had inhabited the homestead log cabin and two-story late 1800s home on her family farm.  She created epic storylines for her Barbies until it wasn’t satisfying enough to do so any longer (age ten), and then she started writing them down.  Her first novel, The Life and Times of Michelle Matthews, was published when she was twelve in the school anthology and took up nearly half of it.
Though Heidi continued to write novels through high school (and still has the Rubbermaid tub full in her bedroom), she stopped in college, deciding it was time to grow up and do something meaningful with her life. When the specifics of that didn’t pan out, Heidi ended up in grad school to become a teacher, and through one of the courses rediscovered her love of romance novels. She began to write again on the side, continued to do so while she taught seventh grade language arts and reading, and when she quit teaching to have her daughter, she took up writing with more seriousness, both as a stress relief and as a potential means of bringing in money.
Many million pages later, Heidi has learned a lot about writing, more than she ever wanted to know about publishing, and most importantly, finally figured out that writing IS the meaningful something she wants to do with her life. A passionate advocate for LGBT rights, Heidi volunteered for One Iowa during the fight for marriage equality and donates with her husband as a monthly partner to the Human Rights Campaign and Lambda Legal. She encourages you to support your own local and national LGBT rights groups, too.

Heidi enjoys reading, watching movies and TV with her family, and listening all kinds of music.  She has a husband, a daughter, and too many cats. Heidi is an active social networker, and of course has good old-fashioned email(link sends e-mail).
