I’ve known fear.
I’ve known pain.
I’ve known horror.
I’ve known all of it.
I’ve guarded myself as best I can.
I’ve hidden myself from him.
I’ve changed my name.
I’ve moved.
But he still haunts me.
One day, I’m sure he’ll find me again.
I don’t trust anybody.
I don’t believe in anybody.
I just want to be free.
Until I meet Jack.
I’m not looking for him, but that’s the thing about heroes.
You’re never looking for them.
He won’t take no for an answer.
He’ll battle past my fear, my pain, and my horror.
He’ll sweep into my life like a hurricane, and it won’t matter how hard I fight.
He’ll break past my walls.
And he’ll change me.
Maybe, he’ll even save me.

5 Stars!

Wow! Just Wow! Make sure you have your tissues handy, ladies and gents, because trust me, you're going to need them. Crazy as this sounds, I really wasn't sure about this book. When it started off, I was pretty enthralled, then for a minute there, I thought: Ugh! Please don't get all cheesy. That feeling lasted about one chapter and then, all of the sudden, I was completely engrossed in it once more. This was quite the emotional roller coaster and there were moments I had to stop and take a breath to get through it.

This being an MC book, Bailey's escape from an abusive relationship wasn't anything groundbreaking and I thought, here we go again. But now I want to slap myself on the back of the head because it did not matter one bit that it's been done before. The way Bella Jewel painted this picture of Bailey's life was so well done and felt so real I wanted to climb in my kindle and pull Bailey into a hug. Her voice sounded so real in my head and not only was I pulled into the story but I could see and feel it too. I love that.

I must have asked myself a million times why would Bailey stay with York? Why not pack your shit and run for the hills the first time he raised his hand? The more I read, the more I got angry with her and then I just became sad, because this kind of thing happens. As someone on the outside looking in, it's easy to say what we think she should do but the fact of the matter is, things aren't always that easy. Bailey had her reasons, especially towards the end and honest to God, I most likely wouldn't have been strong enough to stick around and put up with what she did out of love, loyalty and the feeling of protectiveness for Rae.

Rae, oh bratty, bratty Rae. Bailey is a freaking Saint to deal with Rae and put her own life second trying to do right by this girl. Rae, York's younger sister, was a point of contention with me. Like I said, I'm not sure I possess the strength or the I don't even know what, to take care of that girl. To risk my life for her. That's what makes it even more heartbreaking because the whole thing made Bailey even sweeter to me. Even more deserving of a happily ever after.

Jack is great. He comes off as cocky and pushy at first but at the same time, there was this cute, funny and sweet vibe from him, as well. He's not actually a Biker, he's the son of one, Mack. But we get to see the men and women of Joker's Wrath MC and they're great. Jack is perfect for Bailey and I loved him. I loved them together.

I can't wait for the next book in the series. I am anxious to see what the future holds for these characters. As well as meet new ones. I totally recommend Valiant!
