Release Day Review: Thirty-One Days and Legos by S.A. Stovall (Series Review)

Title: Thirty-One Days and Legos
Ranger Station Haven: Book Two
Author: S.A. Stovall
Release Date: December 11, 2017
Category: Holiday, Contemporary
Pages: 57

Park rangers Carter and Owen Williams have decided to expand their family and adopt two brothers—boys they rescued a year before when they tried to escape the foster system and flee to Canada. After completing their parenting classes, Carter, a reserved man who enjoys the simple life, swears he’ll be the best father possible. His patience is tested, however, when one brother adopts a cat out of the snowy Voyageurs National Park and the other brother refuses to talk about what’s bothering him.
Owen wants to make sure their first Christmas together is a special one, and he decides all of December should be a celebration. He has an activity planned for each of the thirty-one days, but none of them seem to go off without a hitch. The cat has fleas, the boys need to attend a court hearing, and Carter is more than a little overwhelmed.
But Carter is 100 percent determined to make his new family work. He just has no idea how…

4.5 Stars!

While you can read Thirty-One Days and Legos as a standalone, I suggest, if possible, to read Ranger Station Haven first, as it gives a bit of backstory of how Edmund and Luke come into Carter and Owen's lives.

Carter and Owen have been approved to adopt the two brothers they rescued the year before, Edmund and Luke, and while they do have the will to do it, things don't always happen as they are planned.

This was a lovely follow-up to Ranger Station Haven. I loved Carter and Owen, they are just so different and maybe because of that they make a fantastic team. They complement and support each other in this new endeavor. Edmund is adorable and Luke is understandably wary since he's older and has gone through so many things already. I just adored that they managed to find a happy medium to make their first Christmas together as a family so special. Definitely recommendable!

Ranger Station Haven

Federal park ranger Carter Williams dislikes kids almost as much as he dislikes Christmas. He chose his career to escape human contact, not embrace it. And no matter how much his husband Owen tries to sway his opinion, Carter is a grump who would rather ignore the holiday. Owen’s efforts are put on hold, however, when they get a call about six missing foster kids lost in the park.

Christmas Eve takes a turn for the worse when Owen injures himself rescuing the children. Stranded in a snowstorm until dawn, Carter has to keep Owen awake and healthy while simultaneously watching six runaways. What he thinks is a nightmare come to life is actually a beautiful gift in disguise—the kids transform the ranger station into a Christmas wonderland. And before it’s all said and done, they might transform Carter’s heart as well—if he can keep his bah humbug attitude in check.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2016 Advent Calendar "Bah Humbug."

5 Stars!!!

The last thing park ranger Carter Williams wants is having to spend Christmas with 6 runaway kids who escaped from their foster home, he and his husband Owen rescued on the mountain, especially since he doesn't like Christmas or children. However, with Owen injured, Carter learns that maybe there's something good about both of them.

Okay, so first of all, it might be the season or it might be something else, but I started bawling like a little baby at some point during this book so this is your warning that you might need some tissues.

Carter and Owen couldn't be more different if they tried, but they just work together perfectly. While Carter is grumpy and impatient, Owen is the opposite. However, once Owen is injured and Carter has to suddenly take care of his husband and entertain the 6 runaways they rescued, Carter's disposition toward them starts to melt and me along with it.

This was a fantastic Christmas story that just warmed my heart and made me believe in Christmas miracles. Just lovely! Highly recommendable!
