Pierce Atwater used to think he was a knight in shining armor, but then his life fell to crap. Now he has no job, no wife, no life—and is so full of self-pity he can’t even be decent to the one family member he’s still speaking to. He heads for Florida, where he’s got a month to pull his head out of his ass before he ruins his little sister’s Christmas.
Harold Justice Lombard the Fifth is at his own crossroads—he can keep being Hal, massage therapist in training, flamboyant and irrepressible to the bones, or he can let his parents rule his life. Hal takes one look at Pierce and decides they’re fellow unicorns out to make the world a better place. Pierce can’t reject Hal’s overtures of friendship, in spite of his misgivings about being too old and too pissed off to make a good friend.
As they experience everything from existential Looney Tunes to eternal trips to Target, Pierce becomes more dependent on Hal’s optimism to get him through the day. When Hal starts getting him through the nights too, Pierce must look inside for the knight he used to be—before Christmas becomes a doomsday deadline of heartbreak instead of a celebration of love.
4.5 Stars!
Recovering from a serious car accident, Pierce Atwater has decided it’s better for everyone if he works on his physical health alone and not alienating his sister by lashing out at her when she didn’t deserve it. The last thing he expected was to meet a young man who possessed the power to destroy all of his walls.
Hal is the kind of guy Pierce never believed he deserved. Young, beautiful and sweet. Hal takes care of Pierce and gives him something he hadn’t realized he needed. An easy companionship and friendship. It’s something Hal needs, too.
What starts as a tentative friendship slowly but steadily morphs into a bond neither man can deny.
I’m a huge Amy Lane fan, whether it’s one of her angsty tearjerkers or her sweet and funny stories. I pretty much have her on auto buy so of course I had to read Regret Me Not. I wasn’t disappointed, it was funny, sweet, sexy and well written. I liked both characters and I could’ve gone for more of their relationship after the book ended.
Pierce may have been a bit prickly at first but he had pretty good reasons to be mad at the world. I still enjoyed him and honestly, I felt some of his insecurities made sense. He was a good guy though and it becomes pretty clear that he deserves a little happiness.
Hal was a sweetheart and I loved him. I felt sorry for him and thought he was in desperate need of someone to love who’d love him back. I enjoyed the way he was with Pierce though. He had moments of taking charge and being the strong one. Other times he was the one to carry the weight and it seemed so natural.
Overall, I enjoyed Regret Me Not and would definitely recommend it!
