Layton wants success, Adler wants family, how can love make both these things possible?

Layton Foxx works hard for what he has. The condo, the career, the chance to make his mark, is all down to the sacrifices he has made. With tragedy in his past, he doesn’t want or need love. Then he meets Adler Lockhart, the extroverted, sexy winger for the Harrisburg Railers and abruptly he can’t avoid love even if he wanted to.

Adler Lockhart has had everything handed to him his whole life. Cars, villas, cash, college tuition at the finest Ivy League schools. The only things he doesn’t have are parents who care or the love of a good man. Then Layton walks into his privileged life and shows him what real love can be like.

4.5 Stars!!!

Layton Foxx has been hired as the social media guru for the Railers, mainly to handle Ten and Jared's coming out story. He's career driven and is determined to make this work for the team and himself.

Adler Lockhart has been recently traded to the Railers and he has everything he could want, money, cars, villas, except his parents' love or a man he can love and come out for. When he meets Layton, he knows he's met the man who can change that, but now he has to convince Layton.

I adored Adler. He was described like an Irish setter and yes, he pretty much was at that. Eager and sweet, he had no filter and tried so hard to be liked by others, especially Layton. I loved that even if he wasn't sure what Layton had gone through, he noticed something wasn't quite right and gave Layton the space he needed in certain situations. I truly wanted to throat punch his parents, they were horrid with him. While I liked Layton, it took me longer to warm up to him. I felt bad for what he went through, but I found it difficult to connect with him. Adler and Layton had a lot of chemistry, though and the sex scenes were really hot.

I loved Apollo, who was an amazing support for Adler. And it was lovely to see the team, even if perhaps there was too much focus on Tennant and Jared's story. Still, I'm quite eager to learn more of them in the next books in the series.

Overall, this was a great addition to the series and another seamless collaboration between RJ Scott and V.L. Locey. While I don't really know much about hockey, they did a fantastic job with the games that even someone that doesn't follow the sport could understand and relate to it. And of course, it didn't hurt that they created a character I could love as much as Adler. 😉 Very recommendable!

First Season is Book 2 in RJ Scott and VL Locey's Harrisburg Railers series. This book follows Tennant and Jared's official coming out story, the couple we met in book 1 so I think it's important to read the first book in the series as they're a big part of this story.

In preparation of Tennant and Jared coming out, the Railers have hired Layton to work with the players, coaches and management regarding how they speak and act. Layton is terrified to work with athletes but can't pass up an opportunity such as this. Layton's first meeting with Adler does not go well. Adler is a big guy and comes across as homophobic, causing Layton to require more meetings. But Adler isn't homophobic, he just doesn't think about what he says and rambles and ends up putting himself and others in awkward conversations. And Adler is attracted to Layton which means he's trying hard to get his attention and being even more awkward.

This series has really likable characters, both main and supporting. Adler was the epitome of "poor, little, rich boy", who was always trying too hard to be liked and make friends to make up for the wealthy, but uninterested parents he was born with. Layton came from a large loving family, but had a bad event in his past that has made him a frightened little rabbit. In regards to the event in Layton's past, I've gone back and forth on my feelings. The little information that was shared and that Layton knew was horrific, but Layton didn't know everything that was done to him. And while some of his quirkiness regarding hankies didn't make sense because there was nothing in the story that went with that, I imagine the unknown of what happened is really worse because you're afraid of everything. Regardless, it was horrific and Adler was truly a loving and supporting partner.

I did feel that Layton and Adler were shorted in the story department because so much was about Jared and Tennant. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing more information on Jared and Tennant, I just didn't expect them to be such a big part of the story. Almost like this was the continuing of their story with a little side of another couple finding love along the way. I'm looking forward to reading the next book and seeing how the series continues and if we get more follow up on Adler and Layton to see how their relationship is progressing.

Rating: 4 stars!
