How do you find love when someone doesn’t want you to be happy?
Patrick Edwards is dealing with a double whammy. Unwanted attention from his housemate’s boyfriend is making him feel uncomfortable in his own home, and he’s facing uncertainty with his employment as an administrative assistant at the local elementary school. He finally breathes a sigh of relief when a friend puts him in contact with Simon, who has a vacant room.
Simon Dawson is a paramedic who doesn’t hesitate to help Patrick. After all, no one should live in a house where they don’t feel safe. Simon develops feelings for Patrick, but doesn’t act on them—Patrick’s moved from a bad situation and doesn’t need his new housemate hitting on him. However, a weekend away changes everything when Simon realizes Patrick returns his feelings.
But someone doesn’t want Patrick and Simon to be happy. A series of strange letters arrive at the house, and things will get a lot worse before the two men get their happily ever after.
Patrick's Savior is a novel of approximately 69k words. It is part of a series but can be read stand-alone.
Excerpt
Patrick had a smile on his face as he threw open the door to his bedroom and headed straight to the closet. He grabbed a pair of sweats and a clean T-shirt from the shelf, and tossed them both across the room and onto the bed while toeing off his sneakers. The rest of his dirty clothes followed suit and ended up in an untidy heap on the carpet. Patrick kicked them into the bottom of the closet and shut the door on the mess. He’d worry about cleaning up tomorrow. Right now he just wanted to get back downstairs to Simon. A lazy afternoon spent watching movies after their action-packed morning seemed a perfect way to end the day. He yanked his socks off before straightening and turning his attention to the clean clothes on the bed.
The envelope grabbed his attention immediately.
The white paper with the neat handwriting on the front was propped up against his pillow. The bright rectangle stood out in sharp relief against the deep blue of his bedding.
PATRICK
That’s all it said. Just his name, in block print. Patrick.
Tentacles of fear threaded their way through his body as he stared at the envelope. He’d seen one just like it before. Actually, he’d seen three before. But those letters had been in the mailbox, not in his room. Not on his bed.
Cold and clammy, he wanted to vomit. He’d been in this room. The stalker. Is that what he is? A stalker? Whoever was writing the letters had been in Patrick’s room, had been in his personal space, had touched his bed. Patrick’s gaze flew around the room—the closet, the dresser, the bookshelf, the bedside table, then back to the bed. His bed. Panic swelled as he wondered if the guy had been through his things, handled his stuff. Had anything been taken?
His legs were shaky as he backed away from the bed. Slow and steady steps. His back hit the doorframe and he jumped. Get a grip! Patrick navigated the hall and flew back down the stairs, only stopping once he was in the living room. He could feel his heart racing, and the tingling of his extremities as adrenaline roared through his system. He clenched his fists, then concentrated on forcing his fingers to relax.

4 Stars
After receiving some unwanted attention from his roommate's boyfriend, Patrick’s friend Charlie suggests he move into the newly available room with Simon, Charlie’s boyfriend's co-worker. Simon is instantly drawn to Patrick, but doesn’t want to make Patrick feel uncomfortable after the situation he just left, so he keeps his feelings to himself. Fast forward six months and Simon is now ready to admit how he feels, so he plans a romantic getaway for the two of them. Things go as planned, but someone doesn’t want these two men together and the longer they are together, the more the threats escalate.
As much as I liked Simon and Patrick, for me the story was missing chemistry. I just didn’t feel it. I couldn’t connect with them and it made the story a chore to read. I kept putting it down and picking it back up. It’s not the author’s fault, because the writing is good, and the story was interesting and the mystery intriguing. I’m sure many will love Patrick and Simon as a couple, but for me, it just didn’t work. Still, it’s a recommendable book.
