In a sea of impossibly beautiful people, Tyson stands out, and he sweeps Avery off his feet with his old-world charm and romanticism. But there’s a darkness in Tyson too, and Avery discovers Tyson is part of a world he thought existed only in books and stories—the paranormal tales he studies at the university.
Tyson’s been lonely for a long time, and he’s falling in love with Avery. But his past is a long one, and it’s full of enemies and danger. The best way to keep Avery safe is to push him away…
4 Stars!
At almost 30, Avery is already an accomplished college professor, author, and researcher of all things paranormal. Living in a city filled with so much history like New Orleans is a dream for him, and while he's not much of a social butterfly, he enjoys going out occasionally with his best friend, Macy, and their other friend, Vaughn. Macy hooks up with a dashing stranger who takes them to this exclusive club, and there Avery meets the most beautiful man he's ever seen in his life and strangely enough, the man seems equally attracted to Avery. Tyson and Avery hit it off and despite Tyson's secretive, hot/cold personality. But when Tyson's past comes back to haunt his present, Tyson might need to push Avery away to keep him out of harm's way.
I really liked Avery. He was sweet and oh so smitten with Tyson. I loved that he was so unapologetically himself, awkward and quirky. I liked Tyson, but at the same time, I was so frustrated with him. I understood that he just couldn't come out and tell Avery about his secret, but the way he dealt with things was so wishy-washy. Even the part at the end with Clara, I was expecting more of him. Frankly, it was a bit anticlimactic.
I really liked them together, though. They enjoyed the same things and complemented each other well, bringing out the best of one another in the process.
Overall, this was an entertaining read, although I really wished we'd had more of a resolution with the Clara issue. Very recommendable!
