Wow, Rob Rosen has done it once again. And God Belched is his customary laugh out loud romantic comedy adventure that this time delves into Science Fiction. I’m not sure how he is able to tackle so many themes or genres from Contemporary to Superheroes to Alien Planets but every time I pick up one of his titles I know I’m going to be in for a fun ride.
Randy is a winning combination of witty, sweet and well-intentioned. He’s not always as bright as he should be and definitely has a knack for being oblivious (as well as immature and a tad obsessed with his d*#%). However, his character is fun to watch as he and his brother Craig set off for an alien planet in search of Milo whom Randy feels a special connection with.
Craig was just as funny and truly stole my heart from the beginning. It takes a special person to fit so well with Randy and to be brothers made it even more entertaining. Their banter was great and I didn’t want to see it come to an end.
Luckily for Randy, Milo seemed to be his perfect match. The two characters were perfect for one another and it was easy to picture them in my head. I enjoyed the way they “met” and how they got to know one another. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect at first from his description and how he was presented as kind of the blond version of him. In the end, it all worked quite well and I loved him, too.
The adventure throughout the story on Planet Six was a collection of many outrageous obstacles that ranged from cute to over the top but had me at the very least chuckling.
It was late. We were alone on the train. “To recap,” said Craig, turning my way, “we’ve been on this planet less than an hour; we’ve mugged a government employee; stolen government-issued jumpsuits; have a veritable stranger’s credentials on us, namely Milo, who has probably been kidnapped; we’re on the lamb from the law; and our only friend in the entire universe—a universe not our own, for that matter—is a watch named Tag Heuer.”
It wasn’t a serious or angsty story. There was tons going on and it was a pretty quick and easy read. This is a good choice for when you’re in the mood for something different yet fun. I’m a huge fan of the author so I definitely recommend it as well as his other wonderful titles.
