Synopsis

Pain. It was something Finn “Handle” Kaidion knew well after losing his wife. Pain was what kept him guarded against any further relationships.

Pain was also something Mardella “Della” Kent felt after losing her sister and from being dragged into the pits of hell by a madman. Only he was no longer an issue. Instead, having her parents turn their back on her was a new reason pain kept beating at her door.

Walkout

4 Stars

This was a quick and easy read. I was surprised by how fast I got through Walkout but it was definitely appreciated (I actually went to bed on time rather than stay up too late to read). It was entertaining and definitely left me hungry for more.

Dallas and Missy/Tiny were a great couple, both loyal and strong. They balance each other quite well. It was not only the chemistry they possessed but also their personalities as well and how that meshed together. With Dallas and his almost over the top Alpha tendencies, Tiny’s spitfire attitude and independence were exactly what was needed to counteract what could have become overly clichéd.

As a fan of this series, you are sure to enjoy this novella. If you’re new to the series you may want to be warned that although this could be a standalone, it’s a lot more engaging having read other stories in the series.

Break Out

4 Stars!

Again we get another great novella in the Hawks MC universe. This time, however, it is pretty important to have read book 4.5, Walkout, where in many ways this story began.

Della lived through a horror that no woman should suffer. While the man responsible is dead and buried, healing is a process. Della has to learn how to take back control and live her life as best as possible. Plenty around her are ready to lend a hand to make her feel alright but one man seems to truly make her want to feel alive. If only things were that easy.

Handle lives with the devastating consequences of living his type of lifestyle. Losing his wife the way he did, has hammered in how much he can’t risk falling in love and welcoming another woman into his life. Della has already gone through too much and he won’t dare risk sullying her more by keeping her close and claiming her. But while he should stay away from her, Handle is inexplicably drawn to her no matter where she goes.

I really liked Handle and I absolutely loved how he was with Della. He was careful but not to the extent that he treated her like a glass doll. I liked that his protectiveness over her never went over the top but seemed much more realistic of a man in love. I loved that Della could be herself with him and just felt safe enough to act normal and free without feeling as if things were necessarily moving too soon. Even when in some ways things were motoring along quite fast.

I enjoyed the story. Yes, things were a bit sweeter than a lot of books dealing with the same dark subject but in truth that’s not a bad thing. Not everyone is in the mood for dark and gritty but might not want fluff either. That’s one reason this might be a great series. It takes on a lot of different themes, some darker than others. Yet there is always an easiness to it. No overabundance of angst or drama. There’s not a ton violence, crime or blood and gore. It also always focuses on the family that the Hawks are.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this one along with the Hawks MC series.
