Try – verb: to make an attempt or effort to do something or in this case…someone.
And he wants to try Tate Morrison.
Just coming out of a four-year marriage with an ex-wife from hell, a relationship is the last thing on Tate’s mind. He’s starting fresh and trying to get back on his feet with a new job at an upscale bar in downtown Chicago.
The only problem is, Tate has caught the unwavering and unwelcome attention of Mr. Logan Mitchell – a regular at the bar and a man who always gets what he wants.
Night after night Tate fends off the persistent advances of the undeniably charismatic man, but after an explosive moment in the bar, all bets are off as he finds his body stirring with a different desire than his mind.
As arrogance, stubbornness and sexual tension sizzles between the two, it threatens to change the very course of their lives.
Logan doesn’t do relationships. Tate doesn’t do men. But what would happen if they both just gave in and…tried?
5 Stars!
I've read this book at least ten times since I first bought it back on Jan 13th, 2014 (and wow, I can't believe it's almost been 4 years) and I never wrote a review for it. Bad Mari, believe me, I know.
Despite the rating, I won't claim that the book is perfect, it does have some editing issues, some transitions that aren't as smooth as they can be and the MF scenes that were a bit jarring, but neither of those issues has ever diminished my enjoyment of the book.
You see, from the moment I picked up this book and despite the fact that Logan was an arrogant, pushy manwhore, I just fell for him. He's been one of my ultimate book boyfriends since that first time and you know why? Logan's vulnerability in regards to Tate just broke my heart and I've been waiting for him to get his HEA ever since.
I love Tate, don't get me wrong, and I think he's great for Logan, they're smoldering together, even when Tate was still trying not to give into his confusing attraction to Logan, but Logan is special to me.
It's kind of funny because my co-blogger Tracy and I were talking about them and she told me what she didn't like about Logan was how pushy he is and I told her that he had to be, with as stubborn as Tate is, do you think he'd ever give Logan a chance if he hadn't pushed and pushed.
Anyway, re-reading Try for the umpteenth time was as pleasurable as that first time or the second or even the tenth, LOL. It's not often that I can say that about a book and it's a testament to Ella Frank's talent that she was able to bring to life two characters that I have come to love as much as I love Logan and Tate, so if you haven't tried it yet, I do encourage you to start this fantastic journey with us. We'll be reviewing one book on the blog each week until February, so you have time to catch up. ;)
5 Stars
After reading True, I had a huge book hangover and I wasn’t quite ready to let go of Tate and Logan, so I got to talking with one of my co-bloggers, Mari, and told her, I’d love to re-read the entire series back to back, so both my co-bloggers and I have decided to do a buddy read, reading one book in the series each week.
It’s funny what you see differently when you re-read a story. I always disliked Logan’s arrogance and his pushiness, but knowing him as I do now, I see more clearly his insecurities, vulnerability and his tender and caring side. I also see that Tate never would have tried if Logan hadn’t pushed so hard.
I thank Ella so much for bringing these men into my life. They were my first and are so very special to me and they will forever hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to re-reading this series numerous times, and seeing cameos or maybe novellas of them in the future.
Here is my original review of Try:
Logan is a complete and utter Manwhore, who isn’t at all particular about who he sleeps with, male or female. When he sees someone he wants, he goes after them and usually gets them. No one often says no to Logan Mitchell, so when he sees the new bartender, Tate Morrison, at his favorite bar, he begins to pursue him.
Tate is a newly divorced STRAIGHT man, who has never looked at another guy in a sexual way, so he isn’t sure why his body is responding to Logan’s advances. He tries to push these feelings, as well as Logan, away, but neither are going anywhere.
Logan doesn't do relationships and Tate doesn't do men. Will they TRY?
This is my first story in the M/M genre and let me say, it was HOT AS HELL. Logan and Tate have such amazing chemistry and I loved the witty banter between them. They both definitely gave as good as they got. The sexual tension between Tate and Logan was so thick you needed a chainsaw to cut it, a knife just wouldn’t do. The humor was funny, and there was quite a lot in this book. The sex was plentiful and off the charts smoldering hot, it had my iPad smoking!!
I loved watching Tate's internal struggle with how his body was reacting to Logan, compared to how his head said his body should be reacting, but Logan also struggles. Only one other person has made him feel what he feels for Tate and that person broke his heart and his belief in relationships and possibly love, as well.
The story is well-written and I loved the dual POV's and I especially loved that it didn't go from chapter to chapter. You could change POV's 4 to 5 times during a chapter, although the scene jumps might have been a bit smoother. My other praise for this book, was I was never ONCE bored or skimming ahead. I read and loved every single word of this story and I can't wait to see where Logan and Tate's story goes from here. Will they TAKE the risk to be together?
Summer 2014 is gonna take a long time to get here. :( But Tate and Logan are worth the wait.
This was my 1st read by Ella Frank, and I will definitely be checking out more of her books.
4.5 Stars!
So, years ago I read The Exquisite series by Ella and I fell in love. It was scorching hot and addictive. I was already reading mainly MM but whenever I’d go through a slump of not finding anything new and exciting, I’d pick up some MF. So when I realized the Ella had her first MM book out, I was overjoyed. I remember finishing Try in less than a day and feeling like I might explode if I needed to wait too long for book two. Unfortunately, I didn’t continue the series then due to the fact that I found it too hard to wait for the next book to come out (I’m extremely impatient and like to binge read series). Instead, I vowed that I would wait until all the books were out and I could read them back to back. I was so excited that my Co-Bloggers were doing a series reread because now that Tate and Logan have had their story told and are enjoying their hard-won HEA, I have a great excuse to dive into their epic saga, starting at the very beginning with Try.
What did I think 4 years after reading Try the first time? Well, here’s where things get tricky for me. On one hand, I loved it (more than the first time around). Both Tate and Logan are extremely interesting characters, in fact, they’re quite lovable. The story is sexy and addictive. The sex out of this world HOT! Plus I love the GFY/OFY trope (sorry to those who hate it). Overall, I desperately wanted these two men to be together and I felt their connection completely.
But and here comes the dreaded BUT, there were some things that I didn’t really enjoy. For example, I really detested the amount of "girly bits" that we had to read through in the beginning. I prefer my MM Romance to be exclusively MM without all the MF thrown in. Amelia (side character) got on my last nerve. I have no problem reading MF obviously, but I’m not a huge fan when I’m in the mood for MM.
I’m also not quite over the fight the two men have close to the end of the book. Logan was a grade A douche canoe and his apology in my opinion sucked. I’m angry at how he went about it and I’m angry and disappointed at how Tate responded to it and how easily he forgave him just because his “little brain” told him to. It annoyed me. Sometimes these boys needed to stop letting their libidos lead them.
As far as the writing goes, I love Ella and I very much enjoy her books. However, in Try I found the transition between the characters and their POV’s were not as smooth or seamless as I’d like. I listen to my books (Kindle reads them to me) and I had a lot of trouble keeping up with who was talking. Generally, I don’t have those types of issues but here I did and at times I’d have to stop and go back to see who said what.
Overall, though I had some issues throughout the book, I still found it an extremely entertaining and addictive read. I love Tate and Logan and I highly recommend Try!
