It’s never easy to find redemption.
Carrying scars and regrets, River Darcourt avoids too much intimate contact. Among his friends, he is known as a quiet loner. Forget about love. It’s not something he will consider… until sweet, young, and tempting Morgan Hayes becomes his housemate. River closed his heart long ago, but the attraction is impossible to deny.
Morgan Hayes needs a change. He is moving out of his critical father’s home and in with his friends, including his secret/not-so-secret crush, River. Having feelings for River is a terrible idea. But what is a guy to do when the annoyingly sexy mechanic is just across the hall?
While Morgan has overcome ugliness and is ready for love, he’s just not sure River ever will be. They have both experienced pain in their lives. So Morgan dares River to take a chance, and love will either break their fractured hearts in more pieces or, just possibly, make them whole again.
5 Stars!!!
This was a 4 Star pretty much from the outset, but when I saw these guys' hearts, it went to a 5 Star. Lovely, lovely tale.
This is one of the most unashamedly emotional tales I've read - the feelings poured off the page. Happiness that masks hurts from lovely, sweet, gentle, giving Morgan, and closed-off, damaged, loner River. These guys were so, so opposite in so many ways, and yet I could see how both completed the other and cared for the other, despite one being so open and upfront with his feelings, and the other actually leaving for a while, without warning, rather than give voice to those feelings, let alone even admit them to himself.
River hurt Morgan in this tale, not necessarily by his actions, but by holding back and refusing to believe that they could have something. Morgan, simply by being the sweet, decent guy that he was, helped heal the hurt that River felt, which stemmed from something, admittedly devastating and painful, from his very young past. When the reveal about the hurt came, it made for some really emotional reading, which then thankfully became cathartic for him.
Morgan, though he'd had knocks from his nearest and dearest, the people who should have loved him no questions asked, no demands made, still had a joy for life and threw himself into the possibility of being with River. He really was a breath of fresh air and I wish I had a Morgan in my life, as he'd certainly brighten it up!
The leads get a very well-deserved HEA. It's barely starting as the tale ends, but it's a given that they're it for each other and will be building a future together. Oh and the sex in this? Scorching hot, I can tell you, and that's with me reading some pretty hot MM books on a regular basis.
This was so good, and featured mentions of so many decent guys who've already had their own tales in this series, that I need to go and check them all out.
