Wow! I have to tell you, I loved this story. Theo and Chris are absolutely fantastic and I would love to see more of their story as they grow older and make their way into the world.
When I first requested this book to review I didn’t quite realize it would be more of a YA story. I was I guess thinking College or something. So as I started to read it and realize Theo was in High School, I was a little worried I might get bored (I love YA but I need to be in a special mood for it). That didn’t happen though. Instead, I found myself eagerly pulled into Theo’s world as he tried to navigate through his feelings for his best friend, his family, School and being a 16-year-old kid and all the awkward and complicated feelings that come along with it.
I loved how he had such supportive friends and a wonderful mother. People that were in his corner no matter what. I hated his deadbeat, fake, douche of a father. And my heart broke during some moments where he was betrayed and frankly violated by someone he trusted. I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say, this isn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Theo. There are some sadder moments in the story but there are plenty of humorous moments as well. There’s even a couple of sexy moments thrown in to round it all out.
If I had to pick one thing I wasn’t fond of, I would say it was that this was written in a very “tell not show” way that a lot of people aren’t fans of. I generally don’t like it either and in the beginning, it was hard to get used to. However, as the story progressed I started to feel like it flowed quite well. The style works for this particular story and I was able to acclimate quite well.
Overall, I loved the characters, I loved the story and I highly recommend this book. If you like YA it definitely should go on your TBR shelf!
