Blog Tour: Mage of Inconvenience by Parker Foye (Guest Post)

Hello, and thanks to Bayou Book Junkie for hosting me today! This is the blog tour for Mage of Inconvenience, my new romance from Dreamspinner Press.

I've been asked a specific question for today's stop: We don't generally see Mages and Werewolves together, what inspired you to write about such an unusual pairing?

Oh man. This is a great question! First off, let me confess to being a huge sucker for werewolf and shifter stories, to the extent I think there's a shifter in almost everything I've published so far! So, when I decided to try writing a marriage of convenience, I knew one of the characters would be a shifter of some kind. Down on his luck a little. Needing help.

But help from who? Why couldn't the shifter help himself, or easily find help? Marriages of convenience pairings often have discrepancies in wealth, so I turned that idea over and tried to figure out what in this world might carry the same kind of status. Then it came to me: magic. And from there it was a small step to playboy mage.

In one corner, we have West, a runaway werewolf living in a shack in the middle of a forest, who for Reasons now needs a mage. In the other corner, Julian, the famous Mage Colquhoun, who has never wanted for anything—until now. When they meet, West is wearing borrowed clothes and bad news, while Julian looks like a model and has the world essentially at his feet—except, as he finds out, when it comes to West. All Julian's wealth—monetary or magical—means nothing.

Writing this pairing meant I could play in a world of metas (shapeshifters) and mages while exploring this couple's unique challenges. Even with the paranormal world known, they still have secrets.

But, I promise: there's a happy ever after!

Can they find the magic in a practical union?

West is on the run from his werewolf pack, but if he cannot renew his magical defenses, he won’t get far. What he needs is a mage….

Julian is part of a wealthy and ancient family, and one day, his legacy will include his mother’s vast library of spell books—and the knowledge he needs to correct his past mistakes. But his inheritance comes with a stipulation: he has to be married before he can collect. What he needs is a husband….

West and Julian can help each other, and at first they don’t want anything further. But as they dodge meddling cousins, jealous rivals, and an insidious drug, it becomes clear that their lives are entwined in ways they never imagined—and they’re in greater danger than they thought possible.

Parker Foye writes speculative-flavored romance under the QUILTBAG umbrella and believes in happily ever after, although sometimes their characters make achieving this difficult.

An education in Classics nurtured a love of heroes, swords, monsters, and beautiful people doing stupid things while wearing only scraps of leather.
