Excerpt:

“Do you have any idea what you got involved in tonight, little girl?” His voice is low, dangerous, and for the first time since I woke, fear taps at each bone as it trickles down my spine and he moves closer. “I might not know your name, but I do know what you’ve done. What are you, some kind of femme fatale? You on a mission to rid the world of all the bad guys?” He chuckles to himself then stops with his body flush to mine. I hold his gaze, refusing to back off, feeling the fire in his eyes burning through mine. He strokes a finger lightly along my temple and down my cheek. “You got daddy issues?” he whispers.

“Fuck. You.” I shove at his chest, but he doesn’t budge an inch which only increases my frustration.
“Oh, sweetheart, usually I would take a girl up on such an offer, but—”

I bring my hand up to slap him, but he catches my wrist and grabs the other one in a flash, roughly pinning them to my side. “Oh no, you don’t.” He laughs under his breath, but his gaze is anything but humorous. “You got a lucky shot in last time. That kinda luck doesn’t happen twice.” He leans in close, pushing my hair from my face gently with his cheekbone and settling his hot breath over my ear. “Now, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. I’m not above binding you again—” He pauses, letting a few heated breaths brush across my skin. “So tell me, are you going to bend and comply? Which will make it so much easier for you, or am I going to have to wrangle your twisted little soul into submission?”

4 Stars!

What I loved: From the very first page, this story starts out with a bang. Sadie is pretty ruthless when we first meet her and I am not even going to pretend that I didn't love it. I am always ecstatic to read about strong, brave women and Sadie is definitely that, even if it may get her into trouble.

I am a huge fan of action and I loved that this book is full of that. It seems like something is always going on and it was interesting seeing how things were connected in ways that the characters didn't always understand. The author definitely doesn't hold her punches either and do we get the dark gritty and violent life that these characters live. Not just Ram with his biker lifestyle but also Sadie and her past, brutal and sad, that has shaped the person she's become.

The writing was very well done. This is my first book by Nikki Groom and I was impressed with how well written it was. I'd definitely read more from her in the future (as long as they aren't cliffhangers).

What I Liked: The chemistry between Sadie and Ramsey is really good. It's obvious that they each push each other's buttons in many different ways and they are extremely hot together. However, there were quite a few moments where I was uncomfortable with how rough they were with each other in the beginning. Not to mention the amount of times he calls her a "B@$?#".

What I Didn't Like: I do not like cliffhangers, in fact, I hate them! I'm usually the type of person who waits til all books have been out so that I can read them without having to wait for the next to be released in order to get resolution or closure. So the fact that I had no clue that this one was going to end on a cliffy left me angry.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Spark in the Ashes, although if you are not a fan of cliffhangers, I'd wait until Book 2 comes out this summer.
