Blurb

In a battle of the alpha males, who will end up on top?

On the surface, Derek “Call me Dare” Nelson’s life is simple. He’s happy doing up campervans while living in a slightly illegal caravan in his riverfront yard. But life gets more complicated when a smooth-talking, handsome property developer offers to buy the land out from under his feet—the very same man Dare had to escort from a party nine months ago for causing a drunken scene.

Grant Matravers is living a double life, attempting to adjust to weekends as a single, soon-to-be-divorced gay man while staying in the closet during the week. The strain of keeping up appearances at work while missing his kids is bad enough, but add in an attraction to the shaven-headed, tattooed, totally unsuitable Dare and Grant finds his emotional barriers wearing dangerously thin.

Dare blasts through those barriers in a way Grant isn’t prepared for, challenging everything he thought he knew about himself as a gay man. But as their chemistry heats up and the intimacy between them grows, Grant edges towards a decision that could blow up in his face. Exposing a mess of complications that could destroy any chance for their happily ever after.

Product Warnings: Contains one sharp-suited man desperately in need of redemption, another whose thuggish exterior does a pretty good job of hiding his heart of gold, frotting in camper vans, a sensual head-shaving scene and several (noisy) guest appearances from Mas.

4.5 Stars!!!

Scrap is book 3 in the Bristol Collection series by Josephine Myles and while it can technically be read as a standalone, I suggest reading at least book 2, Stuff, because we meet Grant and Dare there and Mas and Perry's story was awesome.

I will admit I wasn't too sure I was going to enjoy this book. Grant was a drunk cheating jerk in Stuff and I wasn't too sure he could be redeemed. And Dare seemed too rough around the edges for the suave Grant, so I just couldn't see them together. After reading this book, I have to say... wow, Ms. Myles, I definitely wasn't expecting that not only would I end up loving Grant to bits, but thinking him and Dare were a match made in heaven!

Grant was trapped in his marriage, just recently admitting what he'd known all his life but refused to acknowledge, that he was gay. Realizing that he'd been living a lie, he takes the first step towards being happy by asking his wife for a divorce. Still, he just can't come out at his job, because he has no clue how his employer will react to it.

Grant meets Dare after embarrassing himself by trying to get Mas, his ex-lover back, while drunk out of his mind. And then they see each other again when the company Grant works for asks him to oversee the negotiations to buy Dare's scrap yard. Dare isn't willing to sell, but in the meantime, him and Grant start a game of push and pull to see which one of them will come out on top.

This is opposites-attract at its best. Grant and Dare couldn't be more different if they tried. Grant is all posh and refined and Dare is all thuggish and rough edges, with some very colorful tattoos. Grant has a steady job in a development company, and Dare works in rebuilding caravans. What they have in common is that they're both tops, although Dare seems to have the upper hand with his easy camaraderie and acceptance as Grant tries to rebuild his life. The chemistry between them is explosive and the sex scenes were very intense, I swear I nearly melted a couple of times there. Dare is a dirty, dirty boy! Yumm!

Anyway, this was a very sexy, fun, kind of angsty, but very entertaining read! You won't be sorry if you picked this book or even better the series up.

Author Bio

English through and through, Josephine Myles is addicted to tea and busy cultivating a reputation for eccentricity. She writes gay erotica and romance, but finds the erotica keeps cuddling up to the romance, and the romance keeps corrupting the erotica. Jo blames her rebellious muse but he never listens to her anyway, no matter how much she threatens him with a big stick. She’s beginning to suspect he enjoys it.

Jo’s novel Stuff won the 2014 Rainbow Award for Best Bisexual Romance, and her novella Merry Gentlemen won the 2014 Rainbow Award for Best Gay Romantic Comedy. She loves to be busy, and is currently having fun trying to work out how she is going to fit in her love of writing, dressmaking and attending cabaret shows in fabulous clothing around the demands of a preteen with special needs and an incessantly curious toddler.
