Synopsis
Music is Tim Chalmers’s great escape and the one thing that’s never let him down. But his band Spiral’s meteoric rise to fame has made it difficult for the drummer to maintain a low profile. Unwanted press pesters him after a public breakup with a volatile ex-girlfriend who loves the limelight as much as he loathes it. Tim’s main goal is to avoid confrontation. However, when he meets a handsome stranger in a dive bar who turns out to be someone he may know, everything changes.
Carter Hamilton-Temple might be a successful financial consultant with more brains, sophistication, and charm than most, but he always falls for the wrong guys: closet cases or men with issues. He can’t fight his attraction to the tattooed rock star, but can he trust his own judgment? When the thrill of danger combined with a fierce physical connection proves too strong for either man to resist, a quiet liaison away from the public eye and curious friends seems like a safe bet. But some secrets are hard to keep. When rumors threaten to rock his world, Tim realizes it’s time to confront his fear with his own kind of honesty.
Excerpt
“What kind of a rock star are you? You’re supposed to love sex, drugs, and alcohol. I haven’t known you long, but you seem to only really like one out of three,” Carter commented idly as he shuffled the cards.
“You’re right. I’m a sucky rock star. I rarely have more than one drink when I go out for dinner or even at a bar. Two at a party. Anything more usually leads to trouble. And I never take drugs. Even cold medicine makes me nervous.” I winked and gave him a lecherous grin that no doubt looked far from provocative in my current condition. “But I love sex.”

Wow, this book had my stomach in knots throughout most of it. One minute I'm anxious for Tim and Carter to get together and admit they're a couple and then I'm pissed at Tim for his reluctance. I can't sugarcoat it, while I absolutely loved this book and Carter and Tim, Tim made me angry. There were so many times I wanted to just shake some sense into him. I mean come on! Tell the truth!! Open your mouth and speak, say the words, Tim! Okay, rant over, had to get that out. Basically, it comes down to the fact that this is a Lane Hayes book so, of course, I'm going to enjoy it. As always it was easy to get drawn into the story and find myself invested in the characters and their pursuit of love and happiness. Carter and Tim were great together, their chemistry was off the charts and I loved picturing them in my head, the All-American boy next door, who happens to be sporting a bunch of ink and is a drummer in a rock band. And the gorgeous well-built/suit-wearing guy who has a thing for rough and dirty sex. It wasn't only the time they spent between the sheets or in the shower, up against a wall or in a seedy motel. There were glimpses of their day to day lives and how smoothly they seemed to slide into friendship and companionship on top of being lovers. Carter was constantly getting Tim to do things, some of which are out of his comfort zone (yoga). Others involved just being together and having fun. Baseball and running, restaurants and cafes. Carter wasn't the stuffy Wall Street type I imagined him to be. Tim was a bit of a harder nut to crack for me. I loved him in the beginning. He seemed sweet and laid back and a bit shy. But soon I realized that wasn't him at all. He could be a nice guy one minute and act like a pr*ck the next. He could be aggressive and then could never speak the things he wanted to say. The way he handles Miranda or his mother or even Carter at times could be irritating. I felt like popping him on the back of the head more than once. Even with all that said I still loved him and wanted for him and Carter to be together and be happy. A Kind of Honesty is definitely a book I'd recommend to my friends. This is a great series and I recommend reading the previous two books as soon as possible! 5 Stars! *Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by the author/publisher for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.*

Today we're very happy to welcome one of our favorite authors, Lane Hayes to our blog. Thank you for answering all our questions, Lane!

1.   Do you have any unique or quirky writing habits?
LH: I don’t know. I might! LOL I usually begin with a short outline and go for it.  The outline expands and changes as I work and I tend to modify it accordingly. But I’m convinced no one could possibly understand my notes besides me!

2.   How has your environment & upbringing colored your writing?
LH: Tremendously! Any writer uses facets of their own lives in their writing and I’m no different. I set my stories in places I know well and give the characters pieces of my life or at least small attributes. A Kind of Honesty, for example, is set in New York City, my favorite city in the world. I don’t live there, but I visit a few times a year. I take nothing for granted on those trips. I’m ultra aware of the weather, the people, the food, the sights and sounds and I try to infuse my books with what I see, feel and hear. The trick is to experience different seasons and go somewhere new each time. In a place like NYC, the options are limitless!

3.   Describe what your ideal writing space looks like.
LH: My ideal writing space is my dining room table. LOL. I have an in-home office I never use because I love the view and the space in my dining room. It looks out onto a rose garden with a huge liquid amber tree that changes with the seasons. That’s a big for the Midwestern girl living in California.

4.   What are your current projects?
LH: I’m current finishing edits on book 4 in A Kind of Stories, which hopefully will be with my publisher when you read this! LOL. And I’ve already begun book 1 in my new series, which is set in San Francisco. I wrote a short story with six amazing authors I absolutely idolize called It Was Always You (Ella Frank, Felice Stevens, Riley Hart, N.r. Walker, Christina Lee and Cardeno C).  All proceeds from the sale of this anthology go toward a LGBTQ youth charity, One N Ten. My short story, Leaning into You, is technically book 1 or 1A in the new series. Look for it in early 2017!

Thank you so much for having me here today! Happy Reading!

Meet the Author
Lane Hayes is grateful to finally be doing what she loves best. Writing full-time! It’s no secret Lane loves a good romance novel. An avid reader from an early age, she has always been drawn to well-told love story with beautifully written characters. These days she prefers the leading roles to both be men. Lane discovered the M/M genre a few years ago and was instantly hooked. Her debut novel was a 2013 Rainbow Award finalist and subsequent books have received Honorable Mentions in the 2014 and 2015 Rainbow Awards. She loves red wine, chocolate and travel (in no particular order). Lane lives in Southern California with her amazing husband in an almost empty nest.
