Blurb:

Teen shelter volunteer Rich searches for love until Diego, from LVMPD Search and Rescue, finds him.

After declaring his love life officially dead, Rich wonders if maybe he should stick with his shifter book boyfriends instead. It’s not as if he has much free time to date anyway. Between working long hours at a coffee shop, guarding his sodas from his hygienically challenged roommates, and running the programming at the Vegas LGBTQ teen shelter he founded – how could there ever be space for love in his life?

Diego Espinoza enjoys taking his downtime from working Search and Rescue, at the Lucky Cup coffee shop. He can set up his laptop, peruse good sport climbing spots and observe the blond barista he’s been pining over for a while. He imagines that the pretty boy has more offers than he knows what to do with, so it takes Diego time to work up the nerve to approach him.

Rich isn’t so sure about the rough looking Diego – even if he’s always thought he was hot – but once he decides to gives Diego a chance, there’s an immediate heat and connection that takes him by surprise. As they learn more about each other and try to find the way to a future together, strange and scary things start to happen.

It isn’t until Rich is injured in a bizarre accident that it becomes clear that there’s someone out there who not only doesn’t want Rich to find love – they want him dead.

Excerpt:

Finally, Rich spoke. “So when you said you weren’t busy, did you mean not so busy that I couldn’t sit here with you and chat? Or did you mean, not busy at all, have nothing to do the rest of the day not busy?”
Diego took a moment to make certain he’d sorted out exactly what Rich had just said. “I’m not busy at all, Rich. Why?”
Rich chewed at the side of his lip as he considered him. Some sort of inner battle was being waged and Diego was dying to find out which side won, and whether or not he’d benefit from it.
“How’d you like to go see a cheesy movie, eat a lot of popcorn and candy, then eat something even less healthy at a greasy burger joint after that?”
Diego never would’ve guessed such a thing would’ve popped out of Rich’s mouth. But he decided to go with it. “Lots of butter on the popcorn?”
Rich let out an even easier laugh. That was what Diego wanted to hear.
“Of course. What would be the point otherwise?”
Can I lick it off your fingers? “Then I think it sounds like a great idea.”
“Awesome. Let’s go.”
Rich shot to his feet, his eyes eager, a wide grin on his face. At Diego’s hesitation, his expression lost some of its carefree joy. It wasn’t that Diego was hesitant, it fell more under the surprised category.
“I’m sorry. I’m being pushy, aren’t I? You don’t have to-“
Diego stood. “I thought you promised me popcorn?” He went about gathering his things, putting his laptop away. “Any ideas what sort of flick you wanna see?”
The wide grin returned. “There’s a really crass one about three guys and a snarky talking pony.”
Diego arched an eyebrow. Rich continued.
“And then there’s the one with all those action heroes that’s supposed to be a sort of comedy, but mainly it’s car chases, explosions and hunky guys.”
Diego grunted. “As much as I love a good, rude talking pony movie, I’ll go for the action one.”
“Sweet.”
Rich held out his arm to him and Diego’s knees went a tad wobbly. He hadn’t realized that such a thing was even possible. He slung his computer bag over his shoulder then wrapped his hand around Rich’s elbow. It occurred to him that he’d never held a man’s hand or linked arms or anything of that sort in public before. Wasn’t his thing. Yet he couldn’t help but be thrilled he was doing it with Rich.
Staking my claim.
He wasn’t ‘that guy’. The one who pissed on trees to remind the other men what was his. As he followed Rich out of the coffee shop, he still didn’t believe he was that sort of overbearing macho jerk. But a thread of possession had hit his gut when Rich had said yes to going out with him. He fucking wanted the guy so bad it hurt, and even scarier than that, he knew it wasn’t just in his bed.
