Book 2 in the Alien Slave Masters series
When a distant planet’s ownership is in dispute, conquering aliens turn defiant human males into pampered sex slaves.
Forced to be the sex slave of an alien warrior, perpetual bad boy, Joel, finds himself tossed into the bed of a space station commander who tests even Joel’s cultivated bravado. While he’d learned to survive an abusive father, the Travian master proves to be a greater challenge. Joel soon finds himself caught between the desperate need to fight his captivity and the unnerving tug of attraction he feels for his new master.
Born to one of the lower castes of his people, Arath has worked his way up to a coveted command. His drive for success has left him isolated from his crew. He has no time or interest in caring for the pesky human pet thrust upon him by his superior. His duty allows him no other choice, so he reluctantly takes what has been given to him. He is surprised by how easily he is seduced by his pet’s allure.
Joel and Arath dance around each other and their growing attraction, until politics intrude and test their tentative feelings. The stakes are suddenly raised, and the choices they make may change the course of history for both of their species.

3-3.5 stars

This was the second book in the 'Alien Slave Masters' series.  I have not read book one, but didn't feel I missed out terribly, although there probably was some world-building and backstory which might have added more understanding especially at the beginning of the story.  But the book worked well enough as a standalone.

Our main protagonist, Joel, is a human pet, who follows his alien Travian master, Firth, to a space station in order for Firth to get treatment for an illness. Unfortunately, the station's ruling females deem having a pet in the sick bay undesirable and give Joel away to the Station commander, Arath.

Joel is no fan of his original master, but better the devil you know, after all, and he is therefore in no way happy to be given to this new alien. Arath himself is none too happy with the arrangement either, but debating with the ruling females or not following orders is not an option and so, Arath becomes Joel's new owner.

I enjoyed the story and might consider reading other books in the series. There wasn't enough depth to it however, the aliens were humanoid, just slightly larger and paler, the big climax and ending were a tad too rushed and easily resolved and the slave and master obviously fall in love.

There were, however, some interesting details on Travian society, that I especially enjoyed, and I would have liked to have known more about this.  Had I read book one, I might have known more about the society to start with.

As always when dealing with slave stories, the love angle kind of bugs me. Can there ever really be consent when one party is not there willingly? Can it be love, when one party holds all the power? Or are the parties involved just experiencing a case of Stockholm Syndrome?

The beginning of the story especially holds some very dubious consent scenes and may not be for everyone. Arath is a 'kind' rapist and Joel a 'consenting' victim. It still doesn't change the fact that this is rape.

All in all, though, this was a fast-paced and entertaining read, that I will happily recommend if you enjoy a little alien snack story.
