Blurb

Dominic Ramos is a Premiership football player with a secret. There are no trophies for being gay in his game. Locked into his rep as the meanest defender on the pitch, keeping his secret is soul-crushing, but love has no place in his sport, even if his soft heart craves it.

Lucky Coleman is on his knees when he meets a man with more money than sense. It’s a Grindr hook-up for cash, not a love match, but dreaming of his desperate, kind eyes earns a place amongst his numerous bad habits.

Meeting once was risky, twice pushes Dom’s courage to the limit. Losing Lucky seems inevitable, but his tight grip on his image counts for nothing when Lucky starts to fall.

Catching him could cost Dom everything, but if he can set his heart free, getting Lucky long term might be a risk worth taking.

5 Stars

Dom is a football player, who has fame and fortune, but is hiding in the closet and paying guys he finds on Grindr for sex. It is taking its toll and Dom is unhappy and paranoid about getting caught. At a hotel, Dom meets up with Lucky, who desperate for money, decides, for the first time, to charge a hook-up for sex. The encounter leaves both men thinking of the other and wanting more, but is it possible for them to find a way to make this more than just a hook-up?

I’m more and more amazed every time I read one of Ms. Leigh’s books, by her skill at weaving a tale that pulls me in and captivates me with somewhat broken characters that eventually find love and happiness. Her characters always feel real, and for the most part relatable, and Dom and Lucky were no exception.

I was mesmerized by their story from the first sentence and couldn’t put the book down until these men got their well-deserved happy ending. As is always the case with this author's works, the writing is incredibly moving and the story is paced well. I loved watching the progression of Dom and Lucky’s relationship from their first hook-up to falling in love.

The story is well-written and packed with a rollercoaster of emotions and it left me wanting more of Dom and Lucky, in a very good way. Highly recommended!

5 Stars

This is one of Garrett Leigh’s best… Rarely do sports-themed books give you all the feels, but this one does. It’s the story of Dom, who is a closeted premier soccer player. He meets homeless Lucky as a paid Grindr hook-up. From there the sparks fly…

Per usual, Ms. Leigh develops strong, gritty characters in such a way that you feel like you’ve known them your whole life. In this book, you get to know Dom’s mentality and why he’s so deeply closeted to the point of isolating himself from everyone in his world. You learn to empathize with Lucky despite his “bad habits” and root for him to find some stability and love. In the end, I so wanted to see these two work out their individual challenges to find themselves together in coupledom.

The sexy times were extremely hot, I mean the chemistry between these two is intense. But so are the emotions and predicaments they find themselves in. I teared up a time or two and was so pleased with the ending.

Caution to all US readers, there is quite a bit of UK slang in this book and I found myself using Google “translate” quite a bit. But it didn’t detract from the flow or nuance of the story. Just a heads up...

Given the preview, I see this is a start to a series and am excited for what’s to come.
