Teaser Excerpt:

He waited for Cam to finish wiping off, then took the rag and tossed it aside. He stretched an arm over him, planting it in the mattress on the other side of his hip, icy blues staring down at him. “I’m not running.”

“You tell me your rental is getting demo’d and you’re getting kicked out, which thank fuck because that place should have been torn down ages ago.” Aside from its proximity to the brewery Nic co-owned, the run-down duplex made no sense for Dominic Price, federal prosecutor and son of a real estate mogul. “Seeing as you’ve been here every night for four months, I made the logical suggestion that you move in.” He flung an arm toward the door. “And then you bolted like the sheets were on fire.”

“I’m leaving for San Diego.”

Shock propelled Cam up to seated again. “You’re what?”

Nic leaned back just in time to avoid a head-on collision. He folded his arms, lean muscles taut as they bisected the myriad of tattoos painting his torso. “The US Attorney down there is taking paternity leave. They need someone to cover.”

“And you volunteered?”

“No, they asked me.”

Cam scooted back against the headboard, letting it hold him up as his world spun faster than he was equipped to handle at this hour.

It was a great opportunity for San Francisco’s best Assistant US Attorney—getting out from under his asshole boss here and taking the reins of an entire operation there. Major problem for Cam, who after a year in the Bay Area had only recently begun to feel at home, in no small part due to the man beside him.

Anger and hurt bested professional goodwill. “Bullshit you’re not running.”

Nic inched closer, laying a hand on his thigh. “You’ll be safer if I’m not here.”

“This is about your father,” Cam surmised.

“CRAFT BREW is a fast-paced, suspenseful novel that will take you on an emotional thrill-ride from beginning to end. I couldn't stop turning the page to find out what happened next!” — Hailey Turner, bestselling author of the Soulbound series and Metahuman Files series

“I loved this book. In the second installation of the Trouble Brewing series the relationship between Nic and Cam is stretched to breaking point, as Nic’s troubles circle ever closer and they have to delve into Cam’s past. Layla Reyne infuses the story with all her trademark action scenes and taut plotting, but she never loses sight of the romance at the centre. This is both hot and touching, and remains the spark that totally lights up this series.” — Lily Morton, author of the bestselling Mixed Messages
series.

4.5 Stars!

Craft Brew is book 2 in the Trouble Brewing series and it needs to be read after Imperial Stout, and if you haven't, read the Agents Irish and Whiskey series, first, too. I promise you won't regret it.

Nic's past and the issues with his father make it difficult for Nic to fully embrace his relationship with Cam. However, when Cam is called back to Boston after his mother suffers a heart attack, Nic realizes the depth of his feelings for Cam.

Cam's relationship with his family is not exactly ideal. While they all love and support each other, Cam's guilt over something that happened almost twenty years ago and the fact that they don't know he's bi bears down on him. Now, working on a case that appears connected to another very close to his heart, he's not sure he's ready to come clean to his family about Nic. But when it comes down to it and Nic rushes to Cam's side to help him out putting his own life at risk, Cam will need to make a decision once and for all.

I love both Cam and Nic. I was a bit frustrated with both of them at different points throughout the book, what with Nic running away to 'protect' Cam instead of letting him in and Cam taking two steps back into the closet and refusing to acknowledge his relationship with Nic to both his friends and his family. Not that his friends hadn't already suspected something was happening between them. Still, when push comes to shove and Nic needs to step up to help, he's all in. Nic was such a pillar of strength for Cam, so patient and supportive and I just fell more in love with him. The progression of their relationship felt realistic, all things considered. There are lots of things happening to both of them and while they're still keeping secrets, it's obvious, they both need each other in more ways than just the physical. Not that they aren't hot together, because OMG, they definitely are, but they're more than just that and that was amazing to see.

As always, I loved that Aidan, Jamie, Mel and Lauren were such an integral part of the plot. The story was well-written, action-packed, fast-paced and interesting. I just can't get enough of this world.

Overall, definitely a fantastic addition to the series! I'm looking forward to the last installment to find out how the ongoing case is going to be wrapped up, and at the same time, I don't want it to end. Very recommendable!
