Nate Todd has been running the Crooked Tree Ranch for the past five years. Trying to keep his parents legacy alive, he and his partner Marcus, along with his brothers, decide it’s time to bring in outside help to get more exposure for the Ranch. Of course the last thing he planned on had been Jay.
Jay Sullivan has lived his entire life in New York City, taking care of his sister and her two children. He never expects to lose his marketing job after four years. With the economy causing more and more people to find themselves unemployed, his prospects of a new job are slim to none. In an act of pure desperation, Jay accepts a job as a business manager for a Dude Ranch in Montana. At this point he has nothing to lose, so he packs up his sister Ashley and her kids, Kristen and Josh, and they make the move to Crooked Tree Ranch.
Nate and Jay are as different as night and day and while their initial meeting almost ends up with someone getting hurt, over the following weeks they somehow settle into a good working relationship. Both men find themselves wanting the other and when they finally muster up the nerve to tell each other, things move along very quickly. What started as a desperate move to Montana becomes the best decision Jay and his family ever made.
I read this book when it was first published and truthfully didn’t enjoy it very much. I’m not quite sure what it was but it just didn’t quite meet its mark. This time through, however, I found I enjoyed it quite a bit. This is a sweet and fun story of “City Meets Country”. There isn’t a ton of conflict or angst, just a sweet romance story with a HEA. Sometimes that’s all we need, a feel good story, a pick me up and that’s what this is.
I liked the characters, Nate is the typical gruff cowboy with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Jay is the city boy who is a lot stronger than his appearance belies. Both men have good chemistry and while the pickings around the ranch are slim, I still felt their connection was realistic. I would recommend Crooked Tree Ranch for a quick easy read.
4 Stars!
