They’ll do whatever it takes to save their team. But can two best friends survive a fake relationship?

Luke Trent is desperate to bring his team back together. If the Tigers can’t get over their slump, he’ll never make it to the pros. With the LGBT-inclusive ‘Rainbow Tigers’ mania dying down, it’ll take a crazy scheme to restore their former glory, and Luke has the perfect one in mind: Dating his best friend.

Brandon Tucker has secretly been in love with Luke for years. He knows he’s going to get hurt if he agrees to a pretend relationship with his very straight friend, but he can’t help it. This is as close as he’ll ever get to the real thing.

The strength of their friendship makes their lie an easy sell, and things are looking up for the Tigers. But when Luke kisses him in front of the whole team, Brandon can’t help but wonder if the only man he’s ever wanted might actually want him back.

With the fire of their fake romance beginning to burn true, a teammate’s devastating betrayal forces them to make a difficult choice: Sacrifice their relationship to save their career, or give up everything else for the chance at a once-in-a-lifetime love.

Brandon Tucker and Luke Trent have been the best of friends since the seventh grade.  Coming from a rural southern town without much to do, both boys see their love of football as their way out.  Their team the Eastshore Tigers was once well known as the "Rainbow Tigers", and gained media attention with their rabid support of their LGBT players.  But it's been a few years and the publicity has quieted down taking some of the team's momentum with it.  Now struggling to gain back some of the glory they found when the Tigers reveled in their identity, Luke devises a plan.

Brandon Tucker has hidden his love for his best friend for years. The fear of Luke rejecting him has kept Brandon firmly in the closet. When Luke devises a plan to get their team back to where they were, Brandon is shocked by Luke's proposal, they plan to be exposed as a couple and Brandon knows it will only lead to him getting hurt. While a pretend relationship with his very straight friend would allow him to act out on his favorite fantasies there is no way it won't end in disaster. But Brandon can't deny Luke and he agrees to go along with the plan.

Somewhere along the way, their fake relationship starts becoming real. But not everyone is happy with this relationship. Now Luke will have to decide what's more important, his football career or Brandon.

I've enjoyed the previous two books in this series but I loved Trick Play.  I have a soft spot for GFY/OFY so I loved the premise of this story.  I was surprised at first because it seemed as if there wasn't really going to be any angst but when the story really got going I started to find myself anxious to find out how it would end.

I really loved Luke and while his scheme was definitely not a good thing, he had very good intentions. I also loved the way he cared so much for Brandon, as a best friend and as his boyfriend. He was sweet and eager and a lot more open than a lot of straight guys would be. As for Brandon, I loved him as well. He was funny and sweet and charming. While there were moments where Brandon pissed me off, overall I just wanted him and Luke living their Happily Ever After.

Again, I really loved Trick Play and think it's a great addition to the Eastshore Tigers series and I'm excited to see what else the author has in store for this series.

4.5 Stars!
