The Witness Protection Program dumps JD Smith practically at the ends of the earth—in Two Pines, Alaska—to protect him until he can testify against a dangerous gang. He tries to stick to his story and keep his head down, but it’s impossible to ignore bush pilot Jake Wylder, a sexy loner with quite a reputation around the small town.
Flying medical supplies around Alaska suits Jake’s wild streak and love of freedom. He’s perfectly content to keep his romantic encounters casual—at least until he meets JD. Something about the nurse makes Jake think settling down might not be such a hardship. Now he just needs to convince JD he’s serious—which won’t be easy, given his past.
For a relationship to stand a chance, JD must testify so he can return to Two Pines as the man he really is—and Jake must grow into the man JD needs him to be.
States of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the United States.
Pilot Jake Wylder is known around town for his numerous bedroom exploits, whether men or women, Jake enjoys his freedom while he still can. However, all that changes when he meets Nurse JD Smith. JD pings all of Jake's buttons and he finds himself desperately trying to woo JD, if only he had a clue how to do it. It's going to take a whole lot of work and self-control to show this man that Jake is serious about wanting more than a simple roll in the sheets.
JD Smith is new to Two Pines, Alaska. As a member of WitSec, he is awaiting his chance to testify in court against a gang going down for drugs. He knows he shouldn't get close to anyone, not when he has no clue how long he'll be around. But unrepentant player Jake Wylder is getting harder and harder to resist. JD can see how serious Jake is about him and he fears once Jake learns the truth about him things will end even before they really get started.

Jake is arrogant and cocky, completely unapologetic about the way he treats his many conquests and pretty much an overgrown child. He's also vulnerable, funny, loyal to those he cares about and charming. Everyone in the State pretty much knows if you fall for his charms and sleep with him, you can't expect much after. This is him and you love him or you hate him. Honestly, I had no idea which side I'd fall in until he got Rory, his puppy. After that I started to see that Jake wasn't a bad guy, he just needed to grow up. JD and Rory definitely helped with that.
JD was more of a mystery to me. I never quite got to know him. He was likable and seemed to fit with Jake but he pretty much took a back seat to Jake's more vibrant character. There were a few fun side characters as well that played really well to Jake's personality. His best friend Denny who was like a brother and didn't let Jake get away with anything and his wife Ronda who was the sweet nurturer of the group. Of course there was also Cheryl, the jilted lover, who stupidly slept with Jake and never got over being relegated to a one-night-stand.
I enjoyed the story, it's funny and easy to read. We are treated to a small amount of angst but the whole thing seems to move at a fast pace. Great weekend book.

Dr. Jordan Drake is placed in the Witness Protection Program in a small town in Alaska. There he becomes JD Smith, a nurse. When he meets Alaska's playboy bush pilot, Jake Wylder, they have instant chemistry.
Jake is pansexual and seems to hook up with every man or woman he's attracted to. The moment he looks into the green eyes of JD Smith, he's smitten. JD doesn't succumb easily to Jake's charms and it makes Jake realize that it's time for him to change his ways and grow up.
Jake decides to try and woo JD and chips away at his walls until they're both falling for each other. Then JD's real life interrupts them.
I really enjoyed Jordan and Jake's story. This is a light read with little to no angst and happily ever after. It's a good way to spend a couple hours when you just want to get away and read a sweet story!
