Book Title: Reading the Signs
Author Name: Keira Andrews
Genre: Contemporary M/M sports romance
Book Description:
This hot-headed rookie needs discipline—on and off the field.
Pitcher Nico Agresta is desperate to live up to his family’s baseball legacy. Since he was a teenager crushing on his big brother’s teammate, he’s known he can’t act on his desires. His father’s made it clear there should be no queers on the field, but if Nico can win Rookie of the Year like his dad and brother did, maybe he can prove he’s worthy after all.
At 34, veteran catcher Jake Fitzgerald just wants to finish out his contract and retire. His team doesn't have a prayer of making the playoffs, but who needs the stress? Jake lost his passion for the game—and life—after driving away the man he loved, and he swore he’d never risk his heart again.
Then he’s traded to a team that wants a vet behind the plate to tame their new star pitcher. Jake is shocked to find the gangly kid he once knew has grown into a gorgeous young man. But tightly wound Nico’s having trouble controlling his temper in his quest for perfection, and Jake needs to teach him patience and restraint on the mound.
When their push and pull explodes into the bedroom, Nico and Jake will both learn how much they’ll risk for love.
This gay sports romance features men who have been repressing their feelings far too long, light BDSM, an age difference, sweaty locker rooms, and a happy ending.

When I read that Keira Andrews, one of my favorite authors, had a new book, I jumped at the chance of reviewing it and I wasn't disappointed. If you're wavering on picking it up because of the light BDSM warning, please do yourself a favor and overlook that. There's some spanking and tying and dominating, but it's nothing over the top.
Jake Fitzgerald is the veteran catcher just going through the motions, waiting for the two years left on his contract to retire. He's on a team that most likely will never make the playoffs and he's grown complacent, his passion for the game disappearing when he drove his best friend (and the man he secretly loved) away. Until he's traded to a new team in Ottawa and meets Nico again.
Nico is the rookie pitcher for the Capitals and has had a crush on Jake since he met him when he was thirteen. He's very hard on himself, pushing himself as much as he can to make his father and his brother proud of him, unfortunately, that means hiding who he really is from everyone and hooking up with a seemingly endless string of Jenny's as he tries to find the one that might change what he really wants.
Jake takes Nico under his wing, helping him control his temper and they hit it off, both of them fighting the attraction they feel for one another. And after an explosive encounter, they can't hide their desire any longer.
I absolutely loved this book! Both Jake and Nico are adorable. Jake is sweet and caring, and yes, he's also controlling and loves to dominate, but that's left for the bedroom. Nico is temperamental and wound so very tight with the pressure put upon his shoulders to be as good as his father and brother and to hide his sexuality from everyone. He longs to be dominated and Jake gives him just what he needs in every facet of his life. While there's a 12-year age gap between them, I never felt that Nico was too young for Jake. They really worked great together and I loved seeing their relationship develop. They were hot, hot, HOT together!
The scenes between Nico and his father when and after he came out to him were amazing and heartbreaking and had me crying my eyes out, same as a couple other scenes that got me all emotional.
Fitz's mom, Helen, was awesome! She was funny and a great support for her son. Loved Diego, too, he was a fantastic friend for Jake and of course, Valentina, who was such a great sister for Nico.
As she generally does, Keira Andrews took me on an emotional rollercoaster, and I can't recommend this book enough. It was a sweet, uber hot, romantic, angsty and all-around fabulous read!
