Review Tour: Hard Edit by Andrea Smith and Eva Lenoir (Reviews + Teasers)

  Title: Hard Edit
Series: Black Balled #2
By: Andrea Smith & Eva LeNoir
Publication Date: September 4, 2016
Genre: MM Romance

It's all fun and games until egos get hurt.

After a year of a seemingly happily-ever-after, Troy Babilonia throws a curve ball that smacks Larson Blackburn right in the head. When Troy's debut novel, "Bridge to Lonely," threatens to overshadow Larson's own success, inviting a past shadow into the light of their present, the two alphas must learn to adjust.

"Bridge to Lonely" has garnered an unexpected success both in the literary world and in the film industry, forcing Larson to accept that he is not the only successful author in the building. But as Troy's old flame decides to make an appearance, the two alphas are forced to test the strength of their love. Let the battle of the egos recommence; where sarcasm is the preferred weapon, and the testosterone levels go beyond the boiling point.

Because Black Balled just wasn't enough...Smith & LeNoir bring you Hard Edit.

“Together, we’re flawed and impossible yet perfect for each other.”
Hard Edit starts exactly one year after Black Balled began and Larson and Troy are living their dreamlife. Troy is still reviewing and about to launch his debut book, Larson is writing and doing alright with his sales and while they still butt heads occasionally, they are more in love than ever. When Troy’s book turns into an overnight success and he gets an offer to film it, Troy and Larson need to adjust to the news, which isn’t easy at all, but when the man wanting to film "Bridge to Lonely" turns out to be Troy’s first love, and who ends up being one of Larson’s old flames as well, things are bound to turn interesting.

I think I liked Troy and Larson a whole lot more in this book, perhaps because their alpha personalities are somewhat muffled by the love they feel for each other, or just because they weren’t really trying to antagonize the other as much as in the first book. They are still as hot together as ever, their chemistry is sizzling and I just loved their banter and seeing them interact with Ida and Muffy (and Thelma and her puppy Minette) was amazing. They did quite a lot of growing up throughout the book and that might have been what made me like them more.

The book was hilarious and angsty and hotter than hot, and definitely my favorite of the two, as we finally see Troy and Larson get their HEA. It won’t be an easy path, but it was very worthwhile! Definitely recommendable!

When we got the tour request for Hard Edit in our e-mail, I noticed there was a first book and it was being offered to review as well, since I’d been having a not so good streak with new authors to me, I decided to read the reviews on GR for Black Balled first. So yes, I’m well aware of the controversy and read countless 1-star reviews for a book the reviewers didn’t even read. Went through a lot of pages on GR and I also found a lot of 4 and 5-star reviews, so I decided to give it a go and while I won’t say it’s the best thing ever, it was much better than I anticipated.

Troy “Babu” Babilonia considers himself “The Father of the Literary Critics” and he has the fan-base to back it up, too. His reviews can make or break an author, and he has no qualms over bashing them and/or their books.

Larson Blackburn is an author whose newest novel “Quincy’s Soul” has been trashed on Babu’s column, against his agent’s advice, Larson decides to reply to Babu’s review and from then it just escalates.

When an editor from one of the Big Five publishers contacts Babu with information regarding Blackburn plagiarizing her own novel, Babu publishes that on his column, furthermore antagonizing Larson.

A chance meeting at a convention leads to an explosive encounter in an elevator and once Larson realizes who the man he was with is (Babu), he tracks him down and from then things move forward in ways neither of them anticipated.

While neither Larson nor Troy are very likable, I have to admit that I was drawn to them. They were both arrogant jerks, yet their chemistry was undeniable. I love a good enemies-to-lovers story and this one really went from I-hate-your-guts to I-can’t-get-enough-of-you at the drop of a hat, no stops or pauses in between to have them moderately like each other.

“… we are two stubborn, controlling, set-in-our-ways men trying to figure a relationship.”

And that is pretty much what they are doing. They make mistakes, they get angry at each other, they get fed up with the other’s attitude, but above all of that, they are forging something that has the chance to actually last, because they are willing to do just about anything to make it work.

The one thing that really bothered me was that I would’ve liked for the guys to find a fitter punishment for Noelle, it didn’t seem like much considering what she did to Larson and his career, but oh well, nothing I can do about that.

I think if you’re willing to look past whatever motivated this book and simply enjoy it for what it is, you’ll love it and you’ll even grow to like the main characters, they are jerks, but they are charming ones at that. The story is engaging and really fun to read, I absolutely adored Ida and Muffy (their chapters at the end of the book were amazing!) and I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves sarcastic, witty stories and is open-minded.
