No one believes that more than I do. My name is Declan Forester, and I am a Zedian. Part of a different species born with miraculous gifts from the gods, only the humans don’t see it that way. They see us as something to be tamed.
After being captured by the humans and stripped of my abilities, I have little left. With my life in shambles, my thoughts are haunted by my human tormenter. Dr. Adam Davenport. A human male that is everything nightmares are made of.
Now, his unwilling captive in a government-run facility, I am forced to obey his every demand, or be punished. Caught up in a web of lies about gods, the push to help a hot redhead, my high running desires and, oh yeah, the pending apocalypse, I find myself falling apart. And Adam may be the only one to save me…if I comply.
4 Stars!
Wow! So, I’m not sure whether I actually liked this story or not to be perfectly honest. On one hand, I was completely engrossed in what was happening and had trouble putting it down. On the other hand, though, I absolutely hated it. I hated how Zedians were treated (particularly) Declan and Darren. I hated what was done to Declan at the hands of the humans and the government. My heart broke repeatedly for the life he was living.
Truth be told, I hated Adam for his cruelty and indifference. His stoicism and brusque nature were completely contrary to how I wanted him to be when it came to Declan. I wanted to put the book down several times, but I absolutely loathed Adam and I needed to see if he wasn’t as bad as he seemed, if he redeemed himself or if he was truly a cold dirty bastard who deserved to be doused in kerosene and set on fire. I’m still not one hundred percent certain which it is.
Declan was endearing and I loved him (of course I also think he could totally benefit from some major therapy with the world's best psychiatrist). His innocence and naïveté combined with his trusting nature were a recipe for disaster when faced with people such as Adam, Darren and the rest of the world. He was too sweet and frankly, that was the only reason I didn’t completely give up on him. I want him to be okay. Of course, that means I’ll probably be grabbing up Book 2 when it comes out.
Yep, I have to see how this all plays out in the end. The world the author created was intriguing and addictive. It’s dark and sad and I have no idea where it is going or where the story will take us. However, it also has the power to make me hope for something great. There are twists and turns and it’s not at all predictable. It has left me with way too many questions that I’m desperately hoping to get answered.
Overall, I can’t say I recommend it, I’m not sure everyone will like it. But if you are intrigued or are in the mood for a complex yet addicting story heavy on the Dub Con and a whole lot of angst, this one is for you.
