And they hunger...
Otto Jones, a cop assigned to the seemingly random murder of a vampire, would rather hide out in the nearest bar than waste his time on a dead vamp. He hates the bloodthirsty demons. But when the king of the vampires commands him to work with one of the lesser princes and find the killer, he has no choice.
Prince Jessamine Senera is ready to sacrifice his happiness in a loveless marriage for his family's benefit... but not yet. He dreams of adventure, excitement, and true love. He lives on romance novels and detective stories and wishes he could drink synthetic blood like every other vampire. But he can't. He needs human blood to survive and is hated by vampires and humans alike.
As Otto and Jessa draw closer to an entity that doesn't want to be discovered, Otto finds the heart he thought long dead opening to the romance-loving Jessa. No good can possibly come from falling in love with a vampire, but when a shadowy assailant attacks Jessa, Otto will descend into the darkest pit of the earth to rescue him.
If you like vampires, mythical and urban settings, intense suspense, and happy ever after, then you'll love this first book in the dark and mysterious Ellowyn Found trilogy!
A Vampire's Heart is a stand-alone paranormal dystopian noir romance with a satisfying conclusion to the love story and a central mystery that weaves the trilogy together.
3 Stars!
This is an incredibly hard review for me to write at the moment because truth be told, I am not at all sure how I feel about the story. This is my second book by this author and I’m wondering if her style just isn’t for me. I’m a huge fan of paranormal and of course, I love romantic suspense and mysteries. The minute I read the blurb I knew I had to read and review this one and I guess you can say I had high expectations. Unfortunately, though, I found myself struggling to completely immerse myself in the world created here, not to mention connect with the characters.
Otto drove me insane and much as I tried, I did not care for him at all. He’s extremely off-putting and right from page one I found myself exasperated with his attitude. I understand brooding, I like brooding, but Otto took it to the extreme and just became an angry and bitter man with a drinking problem in need of some therapy.
Jessa didn’t really stand out to me either, which was sad. I couldn’t bring myself to completely connect with his character enough to concern myself with his story. He was just kind of bleh for me.
The writing was ok but I would’ve loved more. I really feel like a fun opportunity was lost somewhere along the way. As much world-building as there was, I personally felt the need for more because there were quite a few things I didn’t understand or care about. It would have been great if we wouldn’t have been bombarded with Otto’s feelings towards Vampires every second at the beginning of the story. I honestly grew sick and tired of hearing /reading about it.
Overall, I’m giving this story 3 stars because I love the premise and the potential is very much there.
