Mercy is no friend of mine. Karma, she has yet to show kindness to me. The hits just keep on coming for Tessie Marie Harlow. She has never had an easy life. Her mom disabled, her dad long gone, and a single mom raising a rambunctious little boy, that’s Tessie’s world. Her childhood aspirations to be a nurse long since disappeared after a college spring fling both blessed and burdened her with a baby boy. Dropping out of school, she returns to her hometown and begins to settle in. Getting the only job she could as a bartender she spends her days caring for her son and nights serving the Hellions Motorcycle Club and their affiliates. Tired of waiting for Rex to grow up, she’s faced with the bane existence of her life until one night changes everything. In the darkest hour of her merciless ride through life, she’s saved by a quiet, laid back Hellion. Andy ‘Shooter’ Jenkins has always been around. Too wrapped in Rex she has never really noticed him before. He has never been loud or known to have the girls hanging all over him. He is a mystery. A chance encounter brings him to her rescue not once but twice. The Desert Ghosts Motorcycle Club are in town and bring their own brand of chaos right to Tessie’s door. Forced into her day to day life, Shooter is doing everything he can to shelter and protect her as lines are crossed and a war between two clubs begins. Secrets revealed putting two brothers in the Hellions Motorcycle Club at a serious crossroads in their lives. This is not a ride for pleasure. This is not a ride for safety. This is not a ride for love. This is a ride for endurance. Mercy has never once shined her grace down for these two, but in the midst of the danger and lies can they learn to rely on one another and ride it out together?
Tessie has spent too many years as Rex's back up plan. Whenever he's in the mood to spend an hour or two exchanging orgasms, he'll show up with the same old lines he's been using since she was young. But now she's decided she's not going to wait around for him to finally realize they should be together. She has to move on, not only for herself but also her young son Axel. Unfortunately, the fates have no mercy for her and the hits seem to keep on coming to her. When her car breaks down, rescue comes in the form of Shooter, a fellow member of the Hellions, the club Rex serves as VP. From that moment on, Tessie finds that Shooter is determined to help her out in the name of "friendship". But when Tessie is brutally attacked by a rival Club member, Shooter steps in as more than just a friend. Determined to help Tess and avenge her attack, Shooter claims Tess as his Ol Lady. It's the only way to get the club to go all in on not only protecting her but also to go all out with retribution for what happened to her. Their new dynamic means a lot of changes for the both of them but they find they both need each other more than they realized. Now Tessie will have to tell Shooter the secret she's been keeping for years and it might destroy them. So far this is my favorite of the series. Not only because I see such a difference in the writing, which now seemed so smooth and realistic compared to book one and two. But also I like the characters, Tess who was sweet and strong and vulnerable. As well as Shooter who was the best combination of Alpha male, hardboard biker and loving hero. He's the first man in this book series I didn't want to knee in the balls. I also liked the story. The attack was well written and had me in knots waiting for the outcome. I think the realism of the event was handled with sensitivity yet still have that raw edge that was lacking in the first two books. Biker and MC books are best when there is real grit to them, at least that's my personal opinion. While I think a lot of people read them with a focus on the hot sexy times (which I felt was the focal point in the first two books) there are a lot of us who like the action and drama that go along with it. This story had it and it left me wanting more, I'm actually excited to pick up the next book in the series. So would I recommend Merciless Ride? Yes, definitely! 4.5 Stars!
