Release Day Reviews: The Boyfriend Makeover by River Jaymes (Giveaway)

The Boyfriend Makeover by River Jaymes

Available from Amazon

Noah Tanner loves life and the gay men who live it. Bisexuals rock too. Questioning? Even better. Random hot encounters are almost as regular as his nightly cocktail, but it's his friends and his calling that feed his soul. He's spent years raising money for San Francisco's homeless in honor of the boyfriend who died. His most important objective? Ensuring the success of his upcoming, upscale charity event. He's closing in on his goal, but the deliciously scruffy, oh-so-sexy Bachelor Bid contestant, Dr. Kyland Davis, is proving far too distracting.

Former Texan and no-nonsense surgeon Ky Davis prefers his beat-up Stetson boots to polished dress shoes. But after a difficult year for his sister, he'll do anything to see her smile again, even participate in the fundraiser she's coordinating. He's sacrificed a lot to help raise his siblings—including keeping his sexual orientation a secret. Unfortunately, the accompanying makeover by Noah Tanner might be his undoing…

I absolutely loved the first two books in this series and I couldn't wait for this one. I couldn't wait to get to know and explore Noah. Throughout the first two books Noah remains a bit of a mystery. We know he's Dylan's best friend, a party boy who likes no strings attached sex and that he's good at and enjoys organizing the fundraisers for the clinic, but in this book we get a much deeper look at Noah. He is damaged and after losing his boyfriend, Rick, years earlier to complications due to HIV, he is not only scared of loving again, but he feels he doesn't deserve to love or be loved. He harbors a secret that is eating him up inside. Ky is a surgeon and the twins, Savannah and Sierra's older brother. He is firmly in the closet even to his sisters, but when  faced with a shopping trip and crammed into a small dressing room for a makeover with Noah, for an upcoming bachelor auction will they give into their desire?

Honestly, I'm always a bit leary of books with MC's that have previously lost a partner. Sometimes authors make the new love interest compete with the past partner, even if it may be unintentional and you can't compete with a ghost. Ms. Jaymes does a phenomenal job at letting the reader get to know more about Rick, without taking the focus of the story away from Noah and Ky.

This story was just as great as the first two. It held me captive from the first sentence. I didn't want to put the book down. I absolutely loved Noah. Ky, well, I wasn't too sure about him at first, but by the end of the story I fell just as in love with him as Noah did. This was a well-written book that is paced nicely. It contains characters that although you might want to slap some sense into them, you also want to root for their HEA! These are both likable characters that share an undeniable chemistry and love. They showed real growth throughout the story and I adored watching them grow and accept the love the other had to offer. The story was entertaining and I absolutely loved getting to see and catch up with Alec, Dylan, Tyler and Memphis.

The story takes you on an emotional rollercoaster of heartbreak, laughter and ultimately love!! I can't wait to see what River has in store for us next!! Highly recommended!!

Brad's Bachelor Party was one of the first MM books I read when I made the leap from twincest fanfic (Don't judge! There are some awesome authors in the Tokio Hotel fandom I still read once in a blue moon when I still have some free time and fanfiction I've read more times than I care to acknowledge!) to books and it still remains one of my all-time favorites, right along with The Backup Boyfriend, which I adore more than words can express, so finding out that River Jaymes had a new book in the works and that it was Noah's story, well, it was like a dream come true and it was sooooo worth the wait!

While it can technically be read as a standalone, please do yourself a huge favor and go grab the first two books in the series and read them, too, especially the first one, because, Alec and Dylan? Yummm, yummm and double yummm!

Noah's an expert at avoiding. He avoids getting over his dead boyfriend, his guilt and self-loathing at the part he played in Rick's death, by deflecting and making it all about sex. However, Ky Davis, surgeon, great brother and all-around nice guy, might prove a temptation too strong for Noah to resist, despite his allergy to monogamy.

I absolutely loved catching up with Alec and Dylan, Memphis and Tyler and Savannah and Sierra, they were all such a huge part in this book and it was amazing to see their interactions with Noah and Ky, and how deep their friendships run. I'm kind of partial to Dylan and Noah's friendship because, well, it ran deeper and stronger than any other.

Noah has been one of my favorite characters from the beginning and it just broke my heart to realize all he'd been hiding from all these years. Noah was just, I don't know, broken, maybe, but always willing to lend a hand or an ear to help others, even if he couldn't quite bring himself to get the help he needed. He had sarcasm and charm in spades and you just can't not love him and want to make it all better for him. I think Ky was so perfect for him, he was patient, supportive and understanding and he knew when to give an ultimatum and let go, even if it wasn't easy for him.

Their chemistry was just out of this world and OMG, I was just this close to self-combusting with the paring knife/ice tongs scene and then the orgasm denial scene! *turns on the hand-fan to super-high*

So, I think it's safe to say, that even with as much as I've loved Alec and Dylan through the years, I think I now love Noah and Ky at least with the same intensity. River Jaymes did a fabulous job weaving a realistic, emotional, angsty, sweet rollercoaster kind of a book that will make you laugh and cry and just feel for these guys! A definite must read!
