Not wanting his family to know he's there for fear for their safety. Justin persuades Sam not to get help. However, Sam can't keep this man alive by himself, not having an idea who Justin really is, he goes to Gabe for help. From there on the people of Crooked Tree Ranch work together to take care of Justin and keep him hidden from danger. As Justin starts to get comfortable, though, the man he's been running from comes to find him.
This is probably the best book in this series. It's a bit dark and a bit sad. There are some sweet moments and quite a few heart-wrenching scenes that brought tears to my eyes. There were also some heartwarming moments that made me smile.
I got a whole different picture of Sam and I liked it, he was a good fit for Justin, who is a very strong yet damaged man. Sam knew what it was like to not be able to be the person his family expected and wanted. He understood the feeling of not completely being part of something, not wholly fitting in. But Sam built a life for himself and was making his own place in life.
Sam and Justin are very good together because the are able to balance each other out. They lend each other strength and safety when they need it as well as softness that both men have trouble showing. They're both a lot alike on the ranch. They may not feel like they truly are a part of it (Sam because he's not family and Justin because of what he's become) but really they are.
I definitely recommend A Cowboy's Home, especially if you're a fan of this series. It brings some closure to a story that started with the first book and was such a big part of the second. Very well done, R.J. Scott!
