Book Blurb

Nate Beckett doesn’t expect much from life, and he definitely doesn’t believe in New Year’s celebrations or resolutions. A happy New Year? Not likely. As the manager of McGee’s bar, the best he can hope for is a drama-free night. One glance at the sexy young man on the dance floor and that hope is long gone. Once again, his young neighbor Justin is back to tempt and torment him. Despite the undeniable attraction, Nate knows he’s too old and jaded for someone like him, so the time has come to reject Justin. It’s for his own good!
Justin may be young and inexperienced, but he knows what he needs. His New Year’s resolution—to tempt and win Nate over. One lame seduction attempt later, and he’s on his way home in a cab. Alone. But later that night, Justin wakes up battered and bruised on Nate’s doorstep, and Nate insists that Justin stay with him. The big, beautiful man’s protective and caring instincts are definitely kicking in.

Maybe, just maybe, there’s a chance for a happy New Year after all!

Excerpt

Nate fumbled with the lock of his apartment door. Only a few minutes past midnight on the second day of the year and already exhaustion dragged at his shoulders as if he’d stayed at the club until the early hours of the morning. In the past, he’d thought nothing of working until three in the morning and then heading elsewhere in search of entertainment and companionship, but now… He sighed as the lock released. Thirty-two years old—going on sixty-two.

Damn

He pushed the door open. Instead of the usual dark and lonely silence, low murmurs and the flickering light of the television filled the apartment. Justin lay sleeping, curled up on the couch, clutching the remote to his chest like a security blanket.

Warmth settled in Nate’s chest. Had coming home ever felt this good?

Home. With Justin in it, his sparse apartment seemed more like a home. He leaned against the door, closing it with a quiet snick.

Justin stirred. “Is that you, Nate?”

“Yeah, it’s just me.” He walked across the room and perched on the couch beside Justin’s outstretched legs, his hip pressing against Justin’s knee. The smell of sleepy, warm male teased his senses. He wanted to bury his face in the crook of Justin’s neck, taste the pale, smooth skin, and inhale that intoxicating aroma. And he craved another of those mind-blowing kisses. Instead, he removed the remote from Justin’s grasp and muted the television before placing it on the coffee table. “You didn’t have to stay on the couch; you could have used my bed.”

“The couch is okay, and I wasn’t sure…” Justin bit his bottom lip.

“I’m good with you being in my bed.”

“Really?” Justin placed a tentative hand on Nate’s thigh.

“Ah, no. I didn’t mean it like that.” He cleared his throat. “I meant it’s okay for you to use my bed. When I’m not here.”

“Only when you’re not here?”

4.5 Stars!!!

Very nearly perfect. Just needed a very, very short epilogue to make it absolutely perfect.

This is a short, sweet and rather romantic tale, that takes place over nothing more than a couple of days, but it worked because there was a budding connection of sorts between the guys and because of where the author set the tale.

It starts with a little seduction that doesn't go to plan and ends in the leads in an entirely different planned future, which I loved. I had hoped for a tiny bit more, perhaps showing these guys together a few weeks or months down the line, as it did end a little abruptly, but it was still a lovely read.
