Synopsis:

“Stryker”
I’m a drifter.
A man born to ride through this world alone.
There used to be a time when I thought I was the rescuing type. I enlisted in the Marines and made it my duty—I was going to save lives.
I was going to be a true American hero.
But God had another plan.
Or maybe Satan did.
For everything I touch finds mortality.
I’m no hero.
I’m nothing.
I’m a veteran biker, a former nomad who survived war only to live in hell.
Now I ride with the Satan’s Knights of Brooklyn and I’m drifting into a different kind of chaos.
The kind that revolves around a pretty girl with intoxicating green eyes.
A girl who has the power to turn me inside out.
A girl who doesn’t need anyone to rescue her because she’s her own savior.
Until she’s not.
But a man plagued by war and the devil inside him can never be her hero.

Gina Spinelli
Strong. Independent. Fierce.
They are the three things I strived to be.
But sometimes being successful can be lonely.
Sometimes a girl just wants to be a girl and have someone take care of her.
Maybe even love her.
Sometimes the strong become vulnerable.
Or worse, the victor becomes the victim.
Sometimes we lose control or in my case it’s stripped from you.
Defeated. Broken. Haunted.
They are the three things I have become.
In my darkest hour I admit defeat.
In my darkest hour I need one person.
I need him.
Stryker.

*Warning: I know there is a debate out there on whether or not authors should provide trigger warnings or not. I understand both sides of the argument and I respect them. However, as a person who suffers from PTSD, I like to have trigger warnings. If you're like me that's all you need, to just be prepared for what lays ahead. So with that in mind, I in good conscience have to give a quick warning. Please read the author's note at the beginning of the book. Also be prepared because some of the violence in this story is quite intense, including a scene of rape.*

Talk about an intense beginning. Between the prologue and the first couple of chapters, I knew I was in for a wild and crazy ride.

Stryker grew up in a house watching his mother being beaten by his father. Vowing to save her, he does the only thing possible in order to become a responsible man, he joins the Marines. While it was a proud day when he enlisted, it quickly became a nightmare when he saw his entire team die in war. Back on domestic soil, he intends to rescue his mom like he'd always planned. Only she doesn't want to be rescued. Realizing that he can't save anyone, Stryker sets off on the road as Nomad. But his Nomad status only lasts so long until the Brooklyn chapter comes calling and convinces Stryker that he should join them.

The Brooklyn chapter of Satans Knights was like a season or two of Sons of Anarchy, these guys were fun yet dangerous. They could be joking and laughing one minute and starting a shoot-out in the next. I loved it. Lots of action, some drama and laughs and of course romance and sex. There is also friendship, family, PTSD and love. There is a lot going on in Drifter but it was all good.

Stryker meets Gina as she is showing up a room full of men while she shoots a flawless game of pool. He decides to challenge her and from there they begin a game of subtle seduction. As he takes her home that night, neither of them have any idea how their lives are going to change. Some of its great, some of it is not, but when it's all over Gina and Stryker will be irrevocably changed.

I wasn't sure how Gina was going to fit into this story. I knew what happened in the prologue, but it's so vague, I just had too many ideas. I really like the way it was done and how the relationship evolves and progresses between the two. It was so refreshing to read a biker book and not have to hear the cliché of how the guy has absolutely no plan to ever settle down, how he only sleeps with a woman or the club girls once. That gets old very fast and I'm tired of it. In Drifter, the men of the MC don't have that same overly misogynistic view of women. There aren't Club whores everywhere and many of the guys have wives or ol' ladies and so they aren't constantly talking about sex. I liked that.

I really liked the story outside of the romance as well. It's not a new idea, mob and bikers, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. There is a complicated plot at times but it's a smoothly written story that kept me intrigued throughout the whole book. It's raw and gritty, both the motorcycle club side as well as the Mafia side. And there is definitely a very realistic feel to everything (not that I am all that knowledgeable about crime syndicates). Nothing is off limits when it comes to Drifter. War, PTSD, murder, rape, drugs, guns and human trafficking are all part of the plot. And while in some books all of these things could be a recipe for disaster that is not the case here. Everything is woven together seamlessly and is able to subtly set up future books (the ending is just as intense as the beginning).

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves MC Romances/biker books. This is well written, funny, sweet, dark and gritty. It's violent and sexy and there are moments I couldn't stop the tears. All in all, I loved it.

5 Stars!
