Back in high school, nobody noticed quiet nerd Kevin Howard.
But everybody noticed handsome, athletic, and ultrapopular jock Clay Northrup.
They had nothing in common and lived in different worlds.
But a lot can change in fifteen years, and when they meet again at their high school reunion, Clay is no longer the big man on campus, and Kevin isn’t hiding in a corner anymore.
Can they put aside who they were? Can one night really lead to forever?
4 Stars!
Kevin is nervous about going to his high school reunion for a lot of reasons, but it's also a good reminder of how much he has changed over the years; he has more self-confidence now.
Clay was the popular jock in high school; his life has also changed greatly and now he's trying to be more the person he is, not what others expect of him.
These two meet outside of the reunion and Clay takes the time to get to know Kevin better. While they might not have been friends in high school, they were both aware of the other. I liked that they both were honest and willing to take a chance. They were both fairly complex characters even with the shorter length of the story, which was wonderful.
When I started reading this, I had forgotten that it was a short story. It was a bit of a rude awakening when I reached the end because I wanted more! I loved how the author managed to fit a lot into this one, without it seeming rushed or incomplete. That said, it is not a HEA, more the start of a promising romance. I was so ready to see these two really begin their dating lives and see them overcome whatever hurdles came their way. I really hope that the author revisits these two someday.
If you are looking for a quick read that's cute and relaxing, this one may be great for you.

I like both long and short stories, short when you want a quick read and longer stories when you've got time to read and relax.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading longer stories
ReplyDeleteBoth short and longer stories work for me, each have their own advantages.
ReplyDeleteI prefer longer stories, but short stories sometimes fit reading time constraints better.
ReplyDeleteI like both. It depends on the book.
ReplyDeleteI like both but have a tendency to read shorter books because I get through them so fast.
