Book Tour: Delusions by Amy Crandall (Review+Giveaway)

Delusions
by Amy Crandall

Genre: YA Psychological Thriller
As she waits to give her statement in one of the interrogation rooms of Arcata Police Department, Abigale recites the same line over and over inside her head.

I did not kill anyone.

I did not kill anyone.

But there’s a trail of bodies, and it leads straight to her. The events that brought her to this very moment all point to one thing…her guilt.

She must convince Detective Collins of her innocence, but how can she explain her ties to the victims, and the evidence that has her name written all over it?

Then there’s the mysterious Facebook profile. DarkHeart434.

Who is DarkHeart434? And why does it seem like this person has all the answers, including the identity of the real murderer?

As pieces of the puzzle start to come together, everything about Abigale’s life begins to unravel—her past, her present…and even her self-proclaimed innocence.

4 stars!

Amy Crandall’s Delusions was a different book than what I typically read. I didn’t realize going into it that was a YA book, and I typically avoid them. I paused in my reading a couple of times to check the description to make sure I hadn’t completely overlooked that information, so if it matters to you, now you know! But, this is a psychological thriller, so does the characters’ age matter?

This was the first time I read this author and her storytelling was not what I typically experience. The story went between police interviews and the past, but I didn’t realize that’s what was happening at first. I didn’t really like the main character Abigale and was suspicious of her from the beginning. I was probably most surprised by her thoughts regarding her mother and father’s relationship and the physical abuse her mom suffers. I had to keep reminding myself that she was a teenager and some teens are selfish but it definitely affected my opinion of her. Her home life is chaotic, she only has one friend and her school life is pretty miserable. And, what she’s familiar and most comfortable with changes in minutes when her mother moves them during the night. And then things get a lot more confusing at that point!

When you hear ‘psychological thriller’, this book is the epitome of that. It’s deceptive because what you think you know is incorrect. I’m telling you upfront, you’re wrong :) I had my suspicions about many things that happened in this story but I definitely missed a lot. I’m totally blaming it on the changes from time periods, lol. I had a lot of questions but I won’t put them in this review because I don’t want to give anything away about this story! But it definitely had me thinking and trying to figure out what I missed.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable story. I didn’t like the main character and I really wished I liked any part of her; I think that could have let me connect more to the story. This book was like a ride on the craziest roller coaster you could imagine for the future. There were some twists and turns that I was surprised by and had I liked the main character even a little bit, it probably would have really thrown me. The ending was CRAZY. Depending on who you are, this ending was amazing or frightening!
