Blog Tour ~ Angel’s Feather by Alina Popescu ~ (Review + Giveaway)

Angel’s Feather by Alina Popescu
Recently released gay science fiction novella Angel’s Feather, the first book in the Flyer Chronicles series.

Angel’s Feather Synopsis

How far would you go for the one you love? How much of yourself would you sacrifice?

Trapped on a decaying Earth and cut off from the rest of the Universe, humans are no longer allowed to leave their planet. Break this one law and you die: a penalty enforced by flyers, aliens who look like angels of long-lost religions. Michael, the flyers’ leader, is the Punisher who carries out every public execution.
Adam, a young human with near-perfect memory, is committed to rebuilding Earth and a true believer in the flyers’ dominion. While Adam’s support for flyers isn’t a secret, his deep love for Michael is. Not even Michael knows, for his kind never take human lovers, and to Adam, they are too far above him to reach.
In his broken and unwelcoming world, Adam’s love can only lead to pain, loss, and disaster. Yet there is no force in the huge expanse of stars and galaxies that can stop Adam from following Michael to the end of existence. Not even Adam’s own beliefs.

Excerpt

The flyer before me sucked in a breath, his bright blue eyes widening slightly.
“Michael?” My voice sounded higher than I’d intended it to be. Closer to a scared little girl than the confident male I wanted him to see in me.
He kept staring, his eyes glued to my chest. I suddenly realized I was only wearing some battered jeans, and started feeling extremely uneasy and self-conscious. The flyers and a lot of men in my village would prance about half naked, but I never shed my shirt like that. The garage was the only place where I’d succumb to the heat and concede it was more comfortable to work like this.
“Hello Adam,” he finally said, his voice shaking a little. “You always work so hard.” I saw his nostrils flaring as his eyes roamed over me. I felt woozy and breathless under his scrutiny, and my damned nether regions started to stir. This was not happening, I would not pop wood in front of Michael. My secret would be out in the open and I wasn’t ready for it.
I turned slightly so that my left side was what he’d face. Not outright rude, but enough to give me a moment to catch my breath.
“Yes, well, it tends to get lengthy and tedious when you don’t know what you’re doing.”
Michael walked to the tractor, surveying the many parts of my puzzle spread on the floor. He tapped the hood and tilted his head. “Open it up, let’s see what you’ve done so far.”
I had to shake my head to snap out of it. The idea of Michael surveying my progress with the tractor engine seemed so surreal, I had to fight the need to pinch myself, just to make sure I wasn’t really sleeping. One of his brows shot up and he pointed his chin to the hood. That was all the incentive I needed and I stumbled forward, managing not to fall. I popped the hood open and stood next to him as he took in my meek progress.

“Seems to me you’re well on your way, Adam.” A small smile played at the corner of his mouth and it made me almost combust with the heat burning within me. I caught myself before I pushed my groin against the tractor in search of something to relieve some of the sudden pressure. “Do you have a blueprint for the engine?”

4.5 Stars!

I don't read that many sci-fi books, mostly because we don't get all that many requests for MM sci-fi books, but this one was really good! I loved the world building and the attention to detail, which are really important in books like this. I loved the imagery and how fast paced the book was. I wasn't that fond of the cliffhanger at the end which almost made me throw a fit at 2 am, though. *pouts*

I loved Adam and my heart broke along with his so many times throughout the book, especially during the second part. I could actually feel his pain. I liked Michael at first, even if we don't really get to know him that well until the last part of the book, but then he did something that made me want to slap him silly and frankly, I was left unsure if I still want him to get a HEA with Adam, after all. I guess I'll have to wait and see. They did have good chemistry, although it was dampened by Michael's actions, to the point that I almost wished something would happen between Adam and Samandriel.

All in all, this was an angsty, emotional read! Well-written, fast-paced and with a very natural, organic flow. If you don't mind cliffhangers, by all means, read it! You won't regret it.
