Release Day Review ~ Blue by B.G Thomas

Release Day Review ~ Blue by B.G Thomas

Title: Blue

Author: B.G. Thomas

Release Date: May 15, 2017
Category: Contemporary
Pages: 240

Blue McCoy has lived on the streets for a long time, surviving by his wits and doing what he must, and he’s not above using his youthful appearance and air of innocence to his advantage. It’s not an easy life, but he’s happy. He has everything he really needs: the clothes on his back, a house to squat in, a sweet dog. Everything except that special someone to love him.

Six months ago, John Williams’s wife left him because she was bored. “Even your *name* is boring” were her last words to him before she walked out. Now he’s by himself in a big house, trying to figure out what direction his life should take. He’s never been so alone.
A chance encounter sets John on a new path, a path that becomes clearer when loneliness sends him to a local animal shelter to get a dog—and he finds an angel instead. An angel named Blue. A crisis brings them together, but it is something else that keeps them there. Could it be love? A love that can forever end two men's deep loneliness and bring them the support and sense of belonging they've searched for all their lives?

4 STARS

Blue is twenty-three, homeless and a bit eccentric. He has a gentle and kind heart, has quite a few friends, but is alone. Blue's brain works differently and he has crazy facts he can't forget, that just start to spew out. His life isn't easy, but his meager needs are met. Now all he needs is someone to love.

John is boring. His wife has left him to find an exciting new life. His son doesn't really speak to him. His job is boring banking and he's old! At forty-five, he has never allowed himself to look at another man (at least not closely) let alone date one. An act of fate, a neck hug and a kiss on the cheek from an angel opens John's eyes to a much more exciting world.

John and Blue make a really sweet pairing. While Blue looks like an angel, he has lived a life full of adventure. John is coming in with a lack of experience with all things adventuresome. I really liked how their lives blended so seamlessly. John did everything he could to make life easier for Blue and Blue made John's life more exciting.

The secondary characters are just that. You don't get to know them too well, but Hound Dog, Elaine and Mara are likable in the support they give Blue.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. B.G. Thomas has given us a lighthearted, low angst love story. My main issue is that some areas do seem to run on and are a bit wordy (maybe as if they came directly from Blue's runaway brain). I would recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful romance and I'm sure to be reading it again.
