He loves a good book, but he could love a good man more…
When an avalanche of books cuts off access to his living room, university librarian Jasper Richardson has to face up to the truth. His ever-growing heaps of books, magazines and newspaper can’t be classified as a collection any longer. Jasper is a hoarder, and he needs professional help.
Professional clutter clearer and counsellor Lewis Miller thinks he’s seen it all, but even he has to admit he’s shocked. Not so much from the state of Jasper’s house but from the attraction he still feels for the sexy bookworm he went to school with.
However, Lewis's ethical code forbids relationships with clients, and besides, he's determined to get over his habit of falling for unsuitable men he hopes to "fix". But as Jasper continues to make steady progress the magnetic attraction between them is so strong even Lewis has problems convincing himself it’s merely a temporary emotional attachment arising from the therapeutic process.
Jasper is determined to prove to Lewis that this is the real deal. But first he'll have to explore the root of his hoarding problem—and reveal the dark secret hidden behind his walls of books.
Warning: Contains a level-headed counsellor with a secret addiction, a bespectacled geek with a sweet tooth, a killer “to-be-read” pile, embarrassing parents, a van called Alice, and deliciously British slang.
4.5 Stars!!!
Librarian Jasper Richardson decides that enough is enough when a pile of books blocks his entry to yet another room in his house. Of course, by then, books, newspapers, magazines and junk mail have just about claimed most of his house, and he realizes it's time to ask for professional help. Enter professional clutter cleaner and counselor Lewis Miles and his twin sister, Carroll.
The last thing Lewis expected when they meet with Jasper is that the sexy librarian is the same guy Lewis had a huge crush on when they were still in school, but even when attraction flares between them, Lewis refuses to give into it due to his work ethic.
Jasper is determined to show Lewis that they're perfect for each other, even if he's not so sure if he wants to let Lewis close enough to reveal the secret that is the root of his hoarding issues.
I've read a couple of books with this theme before Junk, but I think this is the first one in which one of the MCs is the hoarder and it was really interesting to see the entire process from his POV. I loved Jasper, my heart broke for him as we finally learn what started with his hoarding. I knew it had to do with his mother, but I didn't quite expect what had happened. I loved his determination and his strength of character. He definitely was my favorite of the two.
I liked Lewis a lot, but his wavering back and forth between doing what he considered was the right thing and giving into his obvious feelings for Jasper was a tad offputting. There were more than a few times I wished I could've slapped some sense into him, actually. Still, he was a likable guy when he wasn't playing his hot and cold routine with Jasper.
They had great chemistry and when they finally kissed and more, well, I was afraid my kindle was going to start smoking. It was that hot! *fans self*
I loved Carroll and their parents, they were hilarious and so cool! And I loved Yusef and Mas, too, they were really good friends for Jasper.
I loved reading about hoarding and how difficult it can be for some people to let go of their 'treasures', and seeing how they had to work both on the clutter and on the issues that were the root of the problem in the first place.
All in all, this was a really good slow burn romance, it could be a tad frustrating sometimes but I really enjoyed Josephine Myles writing style and her humor. This is one I'd very likely read again and I highly recommend it! Now I can't wait to dig into the next book in the series hopefully soon.
