Review: Reading the Signs by Keira Andrews
Book Title: Reading the Signs
Author Name: Keira Andrews
Genre: Contemporary M/M sports romance
Book Description:
This hot-headed rookie needs discipline—on and off the field.
Pitcher Nico Agresta is desperate to live up to his family’s baseball legacy. Since he was a teenager crushing on his big brother’s teammate, he’s known he can’t act on his desires. His father’s made it clear there should be no queers on the field, but if Nico can win Rookie of the Year like his dad and brother did, maybe he can prove he’s worthy after all.
At 34, veteran catcher Jake Fitzgerald just wants to finish out his contract and retire. His team doesn't have a prayer of making the playoffs, but who needs the stress? Jake lost his passion for the game—and life—after driving away the man he loved, and he swore he’d never risk his heart again.
Then he’s traded to a team that wants a vet behind the plate to tame their new star pitcher. Jake is shocked to find the gangly kid he once knew has grown into a gorgeous young man. But tightly wound Nico’s having trouble controlling his temper in his quest for perfection, and Jake needs to teach him patience and restraint on the mound.
When their push and pull explodes into the bedroom, Nico and Jake will both learn how much they’ll risk for love.
This gay sports romance features men who have been repressing their feelings far too long, light BDSM, an age difference, sweaty locker rooms, and a happy ending.

Baseball veteran Jake Fitzgerald is just riding out the two years left on his contract before he retires as a professional catcher when the GM surprises him with a trade to a different team. Jake is unhappy about having to give up his comfortable life to move to a new team in Canada. The new team is excited to have him and get him working with rookie pitcher Nico Agresta. Nico's father played and his brother currently plays professional baseball so he has lots of expectations on his young shoulders. Nico is nervous and excited about having Jake on the team. His brother and Jake are friends and Nico's had a crush on him since he was 13 years old. But both Nico and Jake are in the closet and aren't expecting the attraction they feel for each other.
This is the first book I've read from Keira Andrews and all I have to say is, What is wrong with me?
Jake is mature, calm and just goes with the flow. He's had a good career but he's ready for retirement. After a fight with his best friend who he was in love with, Jake has lost the passion for everything. He isn't interested in relationships, friends, or baseball. But, the excitement of the youthful team and his attraction to Nico soon makes Jake see things differently. Nico is passionate about baseball and perfection. He has to be what his father has raised him to be, the best! He has a different woman on his arm every night, because his dad and baseball would never have a gay player. He swallows all his emotions and feelings which leaves him with a short fuse. He can't get outside of his head where he goes over every play and action and questions everything done. But when confronted with his attraction to Jake, he's no longer able to deny his feelings. Jake gives him comfort, release, confidence and allows him to get out of his head. Both Jake and Nico have to rethink their futures and what they thought their lives would be.
I loved everything about this book, and though the ending was perfect, I really didn't want it to end! I want more of Jake and Nico!!!
