Stefan Joss just can’t win. Not only does he have to go to Texas in the middle of summer to be the man of honor in his best friend Charlotte’s wedding, but he’s expected to negotiate a million-dollar business deal at the same time. Worst of all, he’s thrown for a loop when he arrives to see the one man Charlotte promised wouldn’t be there: her brother, Rand Holloway.

Stefan and Rand have been mortal enemies since the day they met, so Stefan is shocked when a temporary cease-fire sees the usual hostility replaced by instant chemistry. Though leery of the unexpected feelings, Stefan is swayed by a sincere revelation from Rand, and he decides to give Rand a chance.

But their budding romance is threatened when Stefan’s business deal goes wrong: the owner of the last ranch he needs to secure for the company is murdered. Stefan’s in for the surprise of his life as he finds himself in danger as well.

First Edition published by Dreamspinner Press, 2010.

Stefan Joss is looking forward to standing up as man of honor for his best friend Charlotte's wedding day. What he's not looking forward to is Texas in the summer, having to talk an old woman into selling her ranch and worst of all Rand Holloway, Charlotte's irritatingly hot and equally antagonistic cowboy brother.

Stefan and Rand have pretty much been at each other's throats since their first meeting when Rand made the ultimate mistake of opening his mouth. From then on, over the years they can't seem to be near each other without the verbal warfare they've mastered. Somehow though after years of butting heads, Stefan realizes things are different. The once intense and temperamental Rand seems to want to be around Stefan, even crazier he actually seems to be flirting with him. Now those buried feelings of attraction Stef has always felt for him are starting to take over.

It seems Rand wants to make Stef his, but Stef doesn't know if a relationship with his best friend's brother is a good idea. Taking a chance is scary but Rand convinces Stef to give them a shot. Just when it seems things are going to work out, Stef is thrust in the middle of a deadly real estate scam.

Mary Calmes is one of my favorite authors and I almost always love her books and Timing is definitely one that I love. It's kind of a "go to" book for me because I know that whenever I'm in the mood for outrageous and over the top funny city boy vs. sexy broody cowboy, Timing will slake my craving. I am desperate for a third book in the series to come out because these are men I adore and can't get enough of.

5 Stars! (I am loving the new cover)

My Original Review of Timing June 2012:

I really enjoyed this book although I have to admit that the characters seemed a bit familiar to me Stefan (Jory) and Rand (Sam) only the Cowboy version. The way all the women were drawn to Stef and instantly loved him and all the men were charmed by him was so much like Joey from Matter of Time that I pretty much had the same picture in my mind of what the character looked like. As for Rand, he and Sam share that same domineering, possessive, cocky yet strong and genial personality.

With that said, how could I not like the book when Joey and Sam are my favorite couple? It was almost impossible not to like Stef and Rand.

This was just a fun book to read. Not overly angst filled or emotional. It was humorous throughout most of the story with a mystery (I admit unnecessary and a bit lacking) that wraps up fairly quickly thrown in and a nice little HEA for a smile.

Stefan Joss is leaving for his best friend's wedding, where he'll be the man of honor, when his boss forces/convinces him to connect with a property owner in the next town to try and work a deal for a sale. Typically Stefan's job does not require him to interact in this way but his boss convinces him it's the only way to help them secure the deal they need. Then Stefan is taken aback when he gets to Texas and finds out Charlotte's brother Rand is going to be involved in all wedding activities, after Stefan had been told he wouldn't be available. Stefan and Rand have been enemies for the entire life of Stefan and Charlotte's friendship. Rand decides that it's time to finally share his feelings and attraction with Stefan, and talk him into a relationship. Stefan is shocked to find out how Rand feels. While trying to keep everyone happy at Charlotte's wedding and starting a relationship with Rand, Stefan has unexpected and dangerous problems with his job.

I'm fairly new to reading Mary Calmes, this is only my second book by her and I'm noticing that her books are usually a lot of drama and over the top characters.

Stefan is a magical man, that only has to smile to make everyone fall in love with him. When Charlotte's unable to get out of wearing her future mother-in-law's dress, Stefan just has to smile to get the mil to agree to modifications. The women and men fawn over him and seek his opinion about every detail that they can. The women paw and rub all over his perfectly beautiful, sculpted body. And he's not just a pretty face, he's able to fight and defend himself and those around him. Everything he touches is perfect, no matter if he's experienced or not, even something like delivering a calf. Though when his life is in danger, he's fairly clueless. I saw that bad guy coming from the start! Rand is the guy that has to take over his family's ranch business upon his father's death and try and support his mother, sister and farm hands. Rand can't afford to be gay and is unhappy that he's attracted to Stefan upon their first meeting. He seems to handle Charlotte and Stefan's over the top behavior.

There were some parts of this story that made me roll my eyes, but I did really enjoy it. Like the other Mary Calmes book, once I got past the 50% mark, I really enjoyed the story and enjoyed watching the MCs work on their relationship. It had some really funny parts that made me chuckle and truthfully, once we got through the parts of Stefan being so perfect, I really did like him. And the steam between Stefan and Rand is hot!
