AotM: The Hardest Fall by Christina Lee (Reviews+Giveaway)

The Hardest Fall by Christina Lee

Roadmap to Your Heart Series, Book 3

Lee trades country ballads for show tunes in the next standalone book of her M/M series, Roadmap to Your Heart.

After licking his wounds from a painful relationship, Tate Sullivan is ready to move back home. He picks up where he left off as drag queen extraordinaire Frieda Love in a West Village bar in New York City. He doesn’t expect to be drawn to the mysterious man with the dark eyes who shows up to every single performance—flirtatiously eyeing Tate one second and disappearing on him the next. Why mess around with a guy who is clearly giving him mixed signals?

Sebastian Clark is on a mission the first night he shows up at Ruby Redd’s. He doesn’t anticipate his plan being flipped on its head by the charismatic drag queen and even more so by the mesmerizing man beneath the makeup. But the more he learns about the vibrant and brash Tate Sullivan the more intrigued he becomes. So he pushes aside his guilt about why he sought out the bar in the first place in order to get to know the guy behind the stilettos.

They’re opposites on many levels, but as Tate spends time volunteering with Sebastian at the shelter, he begins to feel good about himself in ways he hadn’t before. For Sebastian, Tate represents a sense of fun and freedom that is completely fresh and invigorating. Before they know it, their easy companionship catches fire, and Sebastian is kissing a man for the first time, while Tate is opening his heart to new possibilities. But Sebastian is still keeping a secret, and Tate will have to decide if he can trust again, or if the betrayal he feels from Sebastian’s confession is too much to overcome.

I'll be honest, while I wouldn't mind watching a drag show, I wasn't so sure when I picked this book up, that having one of the main characters be a drag queen would be my cup of tea. But Christina did a remarkable job at separating Frieda Love from Tate. Yes, they are one in the same, but Tate was definitely all man when he was not in drag.

I'll start with the person that touched me most in this book, and that's Sebastian. I loved his back story, and my heart broke for him. I wanted to wrap him up in a big old hug and wash all his worries away. He was sweet and lovable, yet quiet, shy and a little awkward. Tate is the polar opposite, especially as Frieda Love. He is loud, outgoing, friendly and proud of who he has become.

They had a chemistry that was out of this world. This was a slow burn, they took their time getting to know one another. They were friends before they became lovers and that always makes for the best relationships. I loved how this the author handled Sebastian coming to terms with his sexuality. She took her time with it and it was paced realistically. This story took its time without being slow or dragging.

I loved the secondary characters of Annie and Tori. They were amazing friends to Sebastian and Tate, and I loved that our MC's had such loving friends to help them through the rough times and at times to tell them to pull their heads out of their butts!!

This was a well written and very enjoyable read. Christina is one of my favorite authors and I can't wait to read what's coming next!! Highly recommended!!

Sebastian has a problem. His best friend asked him for a favor before dying, and because of his principles, he goes to the Ruby Redd club to find Frieda Love, drag queen extraordinaire, and give her the package his friend asked him to destroy. Only when he sees her, he can't stop himself from being mesmerized by her, and when they finally meet and he has a chance to know Tate, the man behind Frieda, he's even more captivated.

Tate has been burned before and he's not looking for a relationship, but he can't really stay away from Dark Eyes, the man who's been coming to his show for several weeks now, even if he's more than likely straight and will surely break his heart.

As they get to know each other, their attraction grows, but there are many things that could still put a stop to their blooming relationship.

I loved Sebastian! I wanted to cuddle him and make things better for him. My heart broke so many times for him, with all he had to go through since he was a little boy, and yet, he had such a kind, giving soul. Now, Tate, while I liked him, there were times when I just wanted to shake him and make him see that Sebastian was like no one else he'd met before. I understood where he was coming from, and I have to thank Christina for the fact that he actually apologized for his actions, which endeared him to me.

I adored their story, the progression from being friends to becoming a couple was realistic and I just loved that it allowed enough time to Sebastian to come to terms with being attracted to Tate/Frieda. They were so very hot together, and it was lovely to just have them take their time to build something that would be more meaningful in the end.

All in all, a fantastically written book, filled with friendship, angst, romance, but above all, with love. Very recommendable!
