“I loved everything about Coal's story! The drama, the violence, the sexy times!” - MJ’s Book Blog and Reviews

4.5 Stars!
I absolutely adore Coal. My God, I love him. My heart broke for him, he dealt with some things no one should have to deal with. The fact that he thought his soul was black and yet he was so helpful, protective and let's face it, kind, made his character all the more endearing.
Ugh! Paisley drives me absolutely bonkers. I am all about being a good person, I believe very much in Karma. I try to do my part to lessen the amount of destruction I do on the earth. I eat healthy, I'm nice to family, friends and strangers. So having said that I have no problem with a person living a clean, green, spiritual life but Paisley is over the top and I found her to be annoying. If I wasn't interested so much in the plot of the story and who the killer was; combined with loving Coal, I'd have most likely not finished the book because Paisley annoyed me that much.
I won't say that I couldn't understand the attraction between Coal and Paisley because truthfully I could see it. They were good together and it was great that he saw her as cute/quirky. Her eccentricities didn't bother him and in fact, I think that it was almost balancing for him since he felt she was light and he was darkness. So while I was not a huge fan of Paisley, I was a fan of the two of them together by the end of the book.
The storyline surrounding Cook was quite interesting and at the same time extremely disturbing. I probably shouldn't admit this but I really could have gone for it all to have gone a little deeper. I didn't think there was enough focus on that element of the book. Yes, the shock factors were there but I feel like it could've been a lot more substantial as far as finding out the why's, learning more about Cook. He has the potential to be a super villain but he wasn't.
All that said, I'm a fan and definitely recommend Coal. The story is well written and thought out. Good action, drama, romance and laughs. Plus if you're like me Coal himself makes it all worth it.
