Book Review: The Faintest Spark (Roadmap to Your Heart, Book 1.5)
by Christina Lee
Malachi O'Rourke spends his years as president of the Disciples of the Road cleaning up his father's mess, grieving a broken heart, and protecting the men under his charge. Sawyer Malone hasn't had it easy either since joining the Scorpions. While paying back a personal debt for his club seems gratifying on the surface, he ends up sacrificing way more than he bargained for.
When Mal recognizes that Sawyer is struggling, he offers him needed support. Something about the man's quiet strength stirs deeply inside him. Sawyer knows he shouldn't rely on the solace Mal provides, but he's been the only ray of light in an otherwise bleak few months. So after a tender moment passes between the men, they simply chalk it up to their newfound friendship.
Besides, no one will ever measure up to Mal's former old lady and Sawyer's just been through his own tragic ordeal. But when they're thrust together for a weekend event involving both of their clubs, they can no longer deny their attraction. Except time-honored loyalties and hard-fought tradition will not only force them to risk their standing--but also gamble with their hearts.
**PLEASE NOTE: The Faintest Spark is $0.99 for release week only.
5 Stars!!!
A sweet, sexy, non-tropey tale of love in the MC world.
I love CL's books and this is one of her very best. I think she does her absolute best when she writes by herself, though I've also enjoyed her collab tales.
This can be read as a standalone tale, though it's one connected to others in her Roadmap To Your Heart series. Refreshingly, it features an older guy (45-ish) and one who's a bit younger (age unspecified), but she manages to not make it a May-December romance, just one that felt wholly natural.
I loved that it wasn't heavy and bogged down in all the darkness that MC tales often are, because this was a simple tale of loyalty to one's club and brothers, vs finding courage to grasp what's offered and to take a chance on something new that could end up being the absolute best. I loved that CL didn't make too much over Malachai's decision to consider a relationship with a guy for the first time ever at his age, and how he dived straight in because of liking and need. I loved how Sawyer put no pressure on him at all, neither to come out to their clubs nor to press for anything other than what Mal was comfortable with, and how Mal overcome his fears to bare his heart,
There's not tons of sex in this, but what there is, is hot and sexy. I loved the tale and am only sorry that my review can in no way do it justice.
