Jamie’s life is one big financial mess, and it really isn’t his fault. However, the last thing he expected to find in the library was a Good Samaritan. He might have been suspicious of Guy’s motives at first, but it soon becomes apparent that his savior is a good man who has been lucky in life and is looking to pay it forward. Guy being gay is not a problem. Jamie’s not interested… or so he thinks.
Guy is happy to help Jamie, and the two men get along fine. But when Jamie’s curiosity leads him from one thing to another, Guy finds himself looking at the young man with new eyes. What started out as a hand up is now something completely different….
Jamie is having the worst day of his life. His parents are divorcing and have used all the money that was saved up for his college fund to pay legal fees in their never ending battle. His parents are unable to help him with any costs associated with college, or living expenses. He lost one of the three jobs he worked to try to support himself and pay for college. He was just evicted from his apartment and has no money and nowhere to go. He's overwhelmed by how close he's come and how hard he's worked, to lose his dream of being a lawyer. Except, there's someone that overhears his conversation with his father and offers a too good to be true offer.
Guy is in his 40s and he can't help but overhear what's going on with Jamie, and he's remembering when he found himself in a very similar situation. At that time, a man stepped up and offered an unusual arrangement to Guy and it changed his life. Guy has decided to pay that forward by offering Jamie a place to live, paying for his tuition, offering him an allowance, a car, and providing the support he's not getting from his family. Guy is taken aback to realize that Jamie is straight, but his offer stands. Jamie moves into his house and they learn that they're really compatible and have a good time together. Guy provides opportunities to Jamie that he couldn't imagine ever having. But Jamie finds himself questioning how straight he is, and learning that love can't be labeled.
I loved Guy and Jamie's story! Guy had a great backstory and history with Stephen that I really enjoyed reading and loved that it came full-circle. The situation he found himself in as a teenager is so common and provided such an interesting storyline. I loved Jamie, too. He worked for everything he wanted, and didn't expect a handout from anyone which was what made Guy's offer so hard for him. Jamie was young, but he had such a great head on his shoulders and really was mature for his age. There were so many great supporting characters involved in this story and I hope this is just the start of a new series by the author, because I'd love to read more about everyone... well, maybe not quite everyone!
There is an age gap between Guy and Jamie, which I thought worked really well in this story. If Jamie had been immature like many 20 year olds, I may have felt completely different, but he's not like others. The chemistry between Guy and Jamie was hot, and so wasn't all their time together. And there is a beautiful epilogue that made my heart sigh, providing a glimpse into how all the characters were doing and more importantly, what's going on between Guy and Jamie five years later. I loved this book and will definitely read it again in the future when I can take my time to savor this story!
