Mitch is angry and hurting. The man he trusted – the man he adored more than anything – abandoned both his team and Mitch. Jake never gave Mitch a chance to help or come to terms with his desertion. Regardless of mission protocols, Mitch isn’t about to open his heart again to that kind of pain.
But the strong attraction between them can’t be denied. How are they ever going to work together when Mitch still resents Jake’s disappearance, and to Jake, the team represents everything that destroyed him in the first place? And meantime they wait for Riley to find them... and to settle the threat once and for all.

When Jake Taylor's sister was killed and her husband and his best friend was convicted for killing her, he walked away from his life, job and lover. His grief was overwhelming and he moved to a quiet town and bought a bar. He lives a simple life by himself, running his bar with his co-owner. Until the day his previous covert team shows up to tell him that his brother-in-law had escaped prison and was headed to him and they were there to protect him. Jake is unprepared to see his former lover and teammate in his bar. And both men are reminded about what Jake walked away from, while they're preparing for his brother-in-law's arrival.
This was an entertaining premise for the start of the series, and it will be interesting to see what comes next! This story is told from Jake's POV and and you can feel his heartbreak over the loss of his sister, his best friend, his lover and his team. He's gone into protection mode and tried to just forget about everything he's left behind. Both Jake and Mitch were alpha males that didn't recognize when something softer is needed. Their time together doesn't make them better communicators, but it eventually happens!
There were a lot of characters in this book, and though I enjoyed them all, I don't feel like I really know any of them so it will be interesting to see them develop throughout the series. I really enjoyed this story, and if you like alpha men, you will, too (if you don't, don't let that hold you back from reading it, it has a lot of intrigue, a little mystery and some snarky dialogue to entertain!)
