Lane Freeman supposed there were worse places to be dumped than a place named Christmas Valley. After being ejected from the foster care system, he spent the past five years hitchhiking and moving around. But six months of a steady job at Tal’s Bar and Grill, an apartment, and even a three-legged cat have him almost ready to risk putting down a few roots when Tal’s brother comes home for the holidays.
Dallas firefighter Trey Jenkins reluctantly accepts that Lane isn’t like the other drifters who’ve come through his brother’s place. A fragile attraction begins to bloom between them in spite of the many reasons they each have to fight it. Trey wants to give Lane a family, but experience has taught Lane to depend on no one but himself. Will winter love burn hot in the town called Christmas Valley or will Lane return to his wandering ways?

5 Stars!

A lovely, lovely read that made my heart ache, but in a good way.

This is a tale of a young man who'd been let down by adults in his past, at an age where adults should have been the ones to love and protect him and to help him become the young man he became with his newfound family, who finally began to believe that he was worthy.

It's a slow tale and many, many times I did wonder what it was that was drawing me into it, and I think the answer was the pure simplicity of it, the sweetness of the tale. the host of decent characters and the vulnerability of Lane, which was in total contrast to big, confident, brash, physical Trey.

There was barely any sex or any intimate scenes in this, but this absolutely did not matter. The guys became friends, hope began to blossom in Lane that finally, finally he might be worthy of being liked, being part of something decent and being free to love without fear of ridicule, of being hurt, of being told that his desires were wrong.

The tale ends some six months down the line, in an epilogue that really was the icing on the cake, one that I believed in. I wish the tale was one where there could be sequels, but I don't think that's in the offing...unless Trey's older brother gets a tale of his own. Please, JR Loveless?
