Darcy is the first book in a new series, Boyfriend for Hire by RJ Scott and Meredith Russell. When I read the blurb for this book it sounded like something that I would love. Though I did enjoy this story, for the most part, I didn’t love it. The book was chock full of characters that were easy to fall in love with, characters you could support and root for. The problem is that the “relationship” portion of this book was less than a quarter of the book so it really just failed to deliver on the instalove connection.
Really, had this book been longer I think it could really have been a terrific story! There was building up between Darcy and Adrian throughout Darcy’s contract with Adrian’s sister. We saw the men hiding their attraction and then acknowledging said attraction. But, the book is around 134 pages and too much time is spent leading up to their first date. Once that first date happened, everything sped by and the book was ending with a perfectly tied HEA bow. I would have loved less of Darcy’s fake relationship with Adrian’s sister and more of Darcy being in a relationship with Adrian.
Don’t get me wrong, this was an enjoyable story. There was attraction and chemistry between the two men. The anticipation of the relationship was there, which is why it felt like readers are shortchanged with such a tiny portion of this story actually being about the relationship. If you like angst in your books, this is not the book for you. This is a sweet story with a HEA, there’s no angst and struggles in this book. I love books like this so that’s not a negative for me. I’ll definitely check out the next book in the series.
